cannon
It was an old cannon, set aside in an infrequently-used municipal park, that got her thinking about a divorce. The violence inherent in war led her to dwell on the cruel events of her own life.
amazed
"Maybe I'm amaze at the way you'r with me all the time," a voice sang over the divider. She heard him clearly before she saw him. "Oops!" he said, as they almost collided.
salute
I salute the people who work so hard to keep things going. That includes teachers, parents, soldiers, government workers (yes, I wrote that), tradesmen, public safety officers...the list can go on and on.
trend
I hate the trend of animal prints. They all look cheap and tacky. Who invents this stuff, anyway? Who is the fashion dictator who decides what women will wear, and when, and how? This nameless, faceless person - who probably shops at Target - needs to be deposed and the position eliminated, NOW.

train
The long line of cars pulled into the station. It was a high-speed Acela train, one of the newer ones that could get him to Washington in under three hours. Dimly, he remembered the first time he'd ever been on a train, though it certainly wasn't as fast and snappy as this one.
pillar
"So, you seem to be a pillar of the community. What is there to do around here that's interesting?" he said, leaning against the doorframe. I looked at him and then downed the rest of my drink. "What the hell gives you the impression that I'm a 'pillar' of anything?" I said incredulously.
