pour
Pour out the water. This word makes me see a pitcher in my mind. It's nice. It's on a table. The window is open. There is a breeze. It looks out onto the ocean like in the opening credits of Cinema Paradiso. I'm thirsty. I wish my life were more like that film, and I don't.
mayor
Mayor of Casterbridge? No that's old news. Mayor of some overly frequented joint on Foursquare? Now that's modern. Or maybe not. Maybe even that is old news. Facebook, Yelp, and who knows who else can check in places. Being mayor means less and less.
lending
The first thing I thought of was LendingTree.com. How is that for consumerism? I guess now I'm thinking of The Merchant of Venice for obvious reasons. I don't mean that in a racist way. Now I'm thinking of people lending their opinions.
shorthand
I find it strange that this is a word on here. I would think that with all the technologies available shorthand was already a thing of the past. I wonder if any of the other users here don't even know what shorthand is. Shorthand reminds me of my mother. I think she knew it.
nominated
I was nominated for some school office in grade school. I didn't win. The next year I was someone's campaign manager who also didn't win. But in college I became the chair of the student senate during my first run and was re-elected. I forget who nominated me. Go figure.
upright
I'm supposed to sit upright. I just had an ergonomic assessment at my work. I sit on one of my feet generally, and apparently that isn't good, nor does it help my typing position or slouching. I wish today's word was uptight. I could write more about that. The song that's playing now is annoying.
hearing
Yesterday I just unfollowed someone on Twitter who had a hearing problem or so his profile said. He said he was deaf. I followed him because he followed me, but I decided to clean out the people I don't actually know in real life or know who they are otherwise. It had nothing to do with him being deaf.
separate
Separate as a verb. I guess that's depressing. It shouldn't be. Going your separate ways is often the healthiest choice to make. It's just often difficult to do. It hurts and sometimes it's ugly. But in the end it's better.
hallowed
I have no idea what to write about for this word. I'm not even positive I know what it means. How ignorant I am.
alibi
Alibi makes me think of criminals, when it should make me think of innocent people. I think of cameras inside convenience stores that time stamp and show that someone was someplace else at the time something horrible happened elsewhere. I think of the term "air tight."
