instill
It is best to instill values in a person while they are young. They will carry these values with them throughout their life, as well as the new ones that they will learn along the way. Values help make a person who they are.
knock
There was a quiet knock on the door. "Can I come in?" He whispered as she peered out into the hallway at him. "I guess so." She admitted him and he stepped inside insecurely. "I know you're upset, but I didn't mean what I said earlier."
startled
She was startled awake by the loud crash outside her door. She lay still for a few moments, listening, her heart pounding in her chest. Every so slowly, she pulled the blankets back with shaking fingers. Her door seemed a thousand miles away as she crept towards it.
embellish
The gown was embellished with the finest diamonds that money could buy. It was the best wedding gown that money could buy. Only the best for a princess.
cave
They wandered deep into the depths of the dark cave. A tiny blue light flickered at the end. Anna reached out to grab Jason's hand.Jason's heart leaped, but didn't let it show. He held the torch out even further in front of them to light their way.
stalled
He stalled for time. He knew he had to think of an excuse, and fast. She had caught him reading her messages, but he had his reasons. None of which she would ever understand. He stammered out words, but somehow they couldn't come together to make sense to even himself.
leathery
Leathery, like a belt. Or gloves. Brown leather gloves. From a cow. A beautiful cow, whose life is only for our selfish reasons.
weathered
Weathered makes me think of something old, something that has been well-used. I think of the weathered barn in our pasture. It’s cute in it’s own way. It’s old and gray and the boards creak when you step inside. It’s where our cats used to live before they were all gone. One is left, and she is precious.
pits
People say they're down in the pits to mean they're down on their luck or sad. Maybe even depressed or miserable. It's an older saying and you really don't hear it anymore. I haven't thought about it in years. I don't think I have since I was a child, and I'm surprised I remembered it.
keen
People can have very keen senses. You can have a keen sense of smell, sight, or hearing. Vampires have all of these. Why talk about vampires? Because my boyfriend as gotten me a little enthralled by the Vampire Diaries series. Back to the topic of keen though, most animals have very keen senses. Even though they normally don't have all of them at once, they have at least one or two. You can't really have a keen sense of touch or taste...well I suppose you could. I suppose some possess the ability to tell every single ingredient in a certain food. Some are really sensitive to even the softest fabrics. Where does the phrase "I'm not very keen on that thought." come from though? It doesn't seem to give keen the same definition as it does when you use it with senses. With the senses it means sharp; with the earlier mentioned sentence, it means fond of, or you're not very sure about it.
