siren
The sirens call to me from the dark depths of the ocean. Or maybe from just down the street, calling with flashing red lights. Hopefully not with a "blue-light special."
panel
I hate wood paneling. It makes the rooms seem so dark, like no sunlight can get in at all. My in-laws house has wood paneling in the den and it feels so depressingly dreary in there. It makes you sleepy and lethargic and unmotivated to do anything. I hate wood paneling.
octopus
The eight armed being reached out and smothered the little fish, suffocating it in its grasp. The anger of the sea creatures was great, and their wrath bubbled through the surrounding waters.
seat
Flying by the seat of her pants ... she flew down the driveway, practically backing into the mailbox and the garbage cans on the corner by the seat. She was late, and it was her first day on the job.
sunlight
Sunlight on my shoulders makes me happy. I looked through the window, through the mini-blinds, and see the brightness dripping off the tree leaves, reflecting off the green blades of grass that blanket the ground. It radiates from the cerulean sky into my living room.
tallest
I was always the shortest one in our class. My best friend was the tallest. We made quite a pair - me only about five foot zero inches, her over six feet. But the funny thing is, that humor transcends height differences.
used
She drove into the used car lot, her old chevy rattling and shaking as if it were on its last legs. As if it were a person laying on his death bed. The salesman, his hair slick and shiny with grease, came out to greet her as her car sputtered to a stop. He reached out a hand to open her door, and she sighed, not wanting to give up the car that had carried her for so many miles.
patience
Patience is one of those virtues that never really feels like a virtue when you actually need to have it or use it. It's like praying for patience but being impatient to get it. Who actually enjoys being patient?
waiter
Sitting there. Waiting for the light to change from red to green. Watching the traffic. Listening to the crackle of static on the local news station. Gripping the steering wheel and trying to stay awake.
