grandfather
Her grandfather had been a kind man. Always fair. Always giving. He had more than the average person, and he made sure to give it away whenever the opportunity presented itself. He had been well-loved by everyone. And yet, someone had still killed him.
hapless
Her whole life, she had been hapless and hurt. There wasn't a day that went by that she didn't run into some unfortune or another. For one night, all she wanted was to be completely free.

Juvenile. It's another word for teenager. It's also a place teenagers go when they commit crimes. Well, I guess it's not really. People just call it "Juvie." Which is short for juvenile. So, actually, yeah, I was right.
cold
I was cold. My fingers were chilled to the bone. I put my hands to my cheeks, trying to gauge exactly how cold they were. My body jerked and I pulled my hands away. This wasn't good. I needed to get inside. Except there wasn't anywhere to go inside. I was stuck out, in the blizzard, no warmth to be found.
bowtie
His bowtie was hanging loose around his neck, fluttering in the wind. He stood as still as a statue, staring over the water as I watched him, unsure if I should approach him or leave him be. I decided on the former and brushed a strand of hair from my face as I came to his side. "Hi." He glanced at me. "Hi."
striped
Striped? No one liked stripes anymore. "Why are you wearing stripes, Lily?" I asked, "No one likes stripes." She snorts. "I don't wear my clothes for other people. I wear it because it's what I like and want to wear." I shake my head.
