returned
i sighed as i placed it back. it sat on the shelf, weathered, faded. it brought a tear to my eyes as i remembered all it had been before. but now it was too old. too outdated. it would one day come back into my life, but for now my habit lay on the shelf, returned.
knock
knock on the door. it's beginning. each and every opportunity in life stars with a knock. a simple rapping, a deafening pounding. something in between. it's a start of a new life, a new chapter, and with it the world opens to a whole new realm.
weathered
the old porch is weathered from the pounding of the rain and our feet. the old chair is weathered from the hours spent idle, flipping through new pages to discover the new worlds out there. the old face is weathered from the cascades of emotions throughout the years.
husband
and wife. two halves of a whole. without one or the other the duo isn't complete. society has rules for him; his wife certainly does as well. whether he abides by them or not is his choice. as tim hawkins puts it, there a some things you just don't say to your wife if you want to live a long and happy life.
speak
speak your mind. it's something we are all told at some point. speak your mind. but it isn't that simple. it isn't easy to push aside the barriers we have created in our own minds and speak what we truly feel. we are laid bare that way. we hand over the guns that we cling to prevent others from seeing who we really are. we lay down the walls that keep others from seeing the monsters within.
major
Major monogram...that's the first thing. But majors is second. Major major major decisions. Ugh. All of my life revolves around majors now. College is a wonderful thing and I am so blessed to be here but MAJORS. EVERYTHING IS MAJOR. YOU ARE THE MAJOR. CHANNEL THE MAJOR. BE THE MAJOR. EAT SLEEP AND DRINK THE MAJOR.
assaults
The military comes to mind. Thousands and thousands and thousands of shells have been lost in assaults. It's kind of funny how the slaughter of the enemy can jumpstart our own industries. It's like we generate these wars to generate the economy. I know we don't, but when I look back at my US class the thing that sticks out about the army most was how the world wars helped the US's economy so much.
