I have a major project in the works, you might have heard of it, a little thing called NaNoWroMo. So far, it’s eight days in and I have less then two hundred words written, only 49,800+ to go haha. It’s been pretty fun trying to get a story down, hope I at least get halfway there.
Major. Im majorly upset right now. I am in class, 21 years old, and learning about “advanced listening techniques.” It almost makes me upset to score well on such assignments. I am paying close to $3000 to learn something I could easily learn on the back of a cereal box.
The moment in which I felt the desire to study was small, but significant enough to help me pass the test. Cramming saltines into my mouth, I scooped up my lead heavy pack and headed out the door, beer and morning breath still clinging to my teeth, my hair suffering from a stiff cow lick.
Major questions such as what is life, what is the meaning of it, what is this, what is that and whatever else. These questions are just part of a bigger question. The major question everyone has been avoiding. Don’t ask me what. It is what it is. What then?
One always has a major thing in life. Something they live for, something they are meant to do. This can be very different from man to man, but basically the idea behind it is the same : bliss.
The first form or major that comes to mind is your course. The major you’re taking in you University faculty. It sucks to have to choose what to major in before you know what you even want in life. Some people make up their minds early. For others, its just one confusing journey.
She always had so many dreams. Then she reached one of the most important crossroads in life, choosing a major. She needed to decide. She needed to finally settle down. There she went, she closed the doors on all the other opportunities. There she went.
The world is making major mistakes by not electing cartoonists as Presidents of respective countries. They would know their faults, would be able to take and crack jokes, both and learn from their mistakes.
I looked at the Major’s eyes. Pale, defeated eyes. I knew before he said anything that we had lost the batalion. The nemy was far too strong. And we were simply no match. I looked away, pretending not to have seen him. But he knew that I saw the sadness in those pale eyes. Those pale gray eyes. It was the lowest point of the war at that point. And we had only been fighting for a month. All I could do was think about what was going to become of us. As a people. As a species. As a planet. And the only answer was in the form of the casualties list that I had to telegraph to the east coast the next day. There were no survivors. The enemy had defeated us handily. They were that much closer to taking us once and for all. There was nothing we could do. Nothing, but watch as the world as we knew it crumbled at our feet. All of our military prowess meant nothing. We might as well have been ants. They extirminated us.
“We have a major malfunction!” the mission controller said as he watched all the dials on his screen go haywire. The rest of us were watching the exploded shuttle rain down fragments into the Atlantic ocean.
I stood back and narrowed my eyes at his major work. They were a series of snaps, some taken with a digital camera while others were Polaroid. Some black and white, others colour. Yet they were the same picture, but not, just like how a person can be an individual but also part of the mass crowd. It was a swarm of motions and movements, rushing hither and thither, making me breathless.
I think the key to succeeding at University is knowing what you’d like to achieve. Selecting a course and major(s) with a specific, well-defined goal in mind. That way, you won’t lack motivation, you can be confident in your studies and yourself and when you finish, you are unlikely to be disappointed with what you’ve accomplished.
So far, my study has qualified me to major in uncertainty and longing, but, not much else.

Masters in their own fields, they have been sources of inspiration for me, the styles which i’ve used, and the subject matter of my books.
