severe
A severe look can silence anything. Even the slightest joke at your expense. It's this look that is special to educating your children in the art of Don't-Fuck-With-Me, or even your family and friends. Oh, if only those daggers could kill at times...
connected
Everything today is about staying connect, and yet to do so by being apart. Isn't that what the internet is all about? Being one's true self? But the confidence only comes through by the fact that we aren't face to face. Connection is now by wires, not by the touch of skin on skin.
stamps
My mother used to stamp everything. Cards, memos... I finally got my own stamping kit when I was thirteen. It was for making picture words. I wouldn't have to write 'not'. Instead, it would show a picture of a rope tied in a knot. It was more work to write those letters, but it was more fun to write. Definitely to read.
feud
Every other day, my parents sit down to watch Family Feud. It's a moment where I think, "Is this really my family?" and "We could do better." I once texted my brother to ask if he would do the show with us if we were ever to apply. He said he'd be more than happy, as long as we didn't say: "Good answer, good answer!"
stage
The only time I've ever been afraid of a stage has been when I had to sing. I'll sing anywhere but a stage. I'll sing in the shower, while I bake, in someone's face, but as soon as I'm near a stage where people are silent and wanting to watch the words vibrate through and by their ears, I sweat and want to run the opposite direction. My mother forced me to sing for a musical before she would sign my application to an Arts High School. It was worth it.
fangs
I sometimes think my dog has fangs she does not know about. Not yet a fully grown dog, she will bite playfully, prancing around and waiting to pull a piece of rope from my hands. She will accidentally bite too hard, and when I say, "Ouch!", she backs away and stops playing, looking sad, then will lick my hand to take away the pain. Her tail will only wag when I take her in my arms to show she is forgiven.
costume
Halloween has gone from a time when people would dress their scariest to confuse the real spirits, to who can dress the sluttiest. I'm not sure when this changed, but I'm sure the spirits are still as confused, and possibly scared, when they come back and see a woman dressed up as a Sexy Clown Fish.
table
There are two tables within my home. One is our every day table, painted yellow, blue, red, and even some green. It reminds me of every great day I've had in my life. The other holds over six people, and it is meant for company on a fancy day; we only use it if we absolutely have to.
