  24. They told me I was bound to fail if I held onto some many dreams and goals. True, I may not have accomplished everything I wanted to do. I never climbed mountains, struck gold in the streams, created a five star restaurant, or wound up making millions of dollars on a good investment. But I did end up writing, and reading, and performing, teaching, and marrying the woman I loved before starting a family I adored.

So, yeah, a half dozen goals out of ten ain’t nothing to sneeze at.

  32. I am homeward bound. I pass the fences that form the boundaries of my home. I see the walls that bound my domain. I am bound to arrive shortly, surely, if only I weren’t bound in… this. These bounds.

  33. After all these years, its come again. Not quite awake, not quite asleep I start my descent. My legs are making good pace, moving like bicycle spokes. Faster, faster, arms waving. Up and down, furiously. More furiously now, trying to get the lift. And I finally in a wild gust of momentum I feel it, that gentle spring like a leg up from the universe. If I keep flapping my arms now I know I’ll make it. I’m lighter and rising, over the telegraph wires, higher, now I’m soaring over Mrs McGowan’s place. I can see her washing waving back at me, dancing in the sunshine. The scary man will never get me now. I spread my wings and feel the wind kissing my face. I can control my movements now, ducking and weaving, sweeping in over backyards and laneways littered with bits of broken cars. There is the green of the park and the blue of the sky and just me inbetween, alive and brilliant.
And then I see myself. Just a picture in my head. My adult self. And I remember I am bound to fall.

  34. All she could see of any light was the small beam coming through the nearest window, (which was also the smallest on the ship).

  40. It was bound to go wrong. The whole plan was.
    They were going to fail.
Those were the thoughts going around in Billy’s head as he watched his friends gather supplies.

They were going to need a lot of luck if they were going to succeed, that’s for sure.
