  8. All the coins are raining upon us. Cold coins. Smooth coins. Coins without faces. Scrounging around we lick up the almost-liquid coins and gouge each other. Principle: meaninglessness. Material: meaning beyond measure. The surfaces are indented and feel like brail.

  9. When you don’t have much to begin with, a coin can be a heaven. A Haven, a safe place, a hoard, a treasure. Or if your wallet is full of large bills, you could care less and walk past a penny in the parking lot like an old piece of gum. A coin is merely potential. Like a string or a mug. Or a rock or a spider. It means nothing, or it means everything.

Will we ever be able to break this malicious class struggle that throws us into the ethereal ring where an everlasting battle is fought; a battle in which the victor takes the specie? Nobody ever wins when coins are thrust on the table as wager. There can be no true victor, as everyone just tries to do a little better each time; which is all we can do.

  26. Coins are shiny. I’m collecting them for fencing equipment. Usually my father gives them to my brother, but now he’s giving them to me. And seeing as I’m vice-president of the club, I need my own equipment.
