bagel
I stopped, lips in an exaggerated frown, and sniffed a little as I watched the bagel roll under the desk. She would have loved that bagel. It was perfectly toasted, and covered in onions.
major
I've made major strides over the past half-year or so, and it feels like I'm a new man. People always tell you how this or that is the best thing ever, but you can't really know until you go through the experience yourself.
steps
It took Barry many months to make it to the top of the attic steps. Always before his fear of darkness and heights combined to hold him at bay. But deep breaths and the love of his family enabled him to finally get to the boxes stored at the top of their home. Now they will finally be able to decorate their Christmas tree!
forth
"But dad, we'll miss all the good cookies!", Billy says in a voice both indignant with missed opportunities and reluctantly curious at the same time. "Nonsense, son. There will still be plenty to choose from. But do what I say; look back at our foot prints in the grass" A deep sigh, a brief pause to show that immediate obedience is no longer in the cards for my 8-year-old, then a three-quarter turn towards our path from the car to the entrance of the fair. "OK, dad, I looked. Can we go now?!?" "Billy, those steps can never be undone. We've walked there and no mistake. They cannot be undone, son. So, it's never any use to try to go back and pretend what happened never has. You must always go forth knowing that your next steps need to put down right from the start." "Can we go now? I want one with powder on top and they always go first!"
bury
Your feelings can eat you alive. It's amazing;the deeper you bury them the more life they gain, as if they thrive on the energy you expend denying them.
upper
You can't tell me I'm not one of you! I belong at this club by virtue of the sheer amount of money I've spent tipping the valets to park my Jag. Tell ME I'm low class. I am the very epitome of upper class!!
since
Since I turned 7, I've learned a lot about the world. I've learned that there are many more numbers than 100, and that there are way too many words I haven't quite learned yet. But I will learn them, you can wager on it!
gone
My opportunity to write the last entry for "wet" has gone by like the second-hand in a digital world.
wet
The road was slick with rain. This came as a surprise, because leading up the slope of the hill the tarmac was dry and dusty. This is why Robert felt safe with the odometer pegged at 120. Of course, the downhill slope being wet was something Robert and his sleeping pal Frank were completely uprepared for. Both that, and the guard rail lining the curve at the bottom.
scene
She was going to make a scene, I could feel it. I could see it in the set of her shoulders and the glare on her face. Only, I think this partifcular security guard has already had his fill of ladies like her; his fingers twitched on the hand near his taser.
