etiquette
Etiquette, the most variable of human standards. In England, persons do not speak to one another until properly introduced by a mutual acquaintance. In the Middle East, burping during meals is not only accepted but encouraged. And, in my family, the word please, a staple of American typical etiquette, is quickly vanishing.
straw
An unmistakable, curly, blond HAIR. The last straw, literally and figuratively. The cheating, I found, had very little to do with me, and very much to do with his own pathological arrogance. A true spoiled brat who was never denied anything...why should he have denied anything to himself?
expecting
Expecting is one of the greatest, most frequent, and least easy to of human faults. Don't expect, just receive.
maroon
The belt was an old, worn, maroon leather. Sally looked at it with a bemused fascination. S.M.S., it said.Whose had it been?
cast
There he was, casting out the net into the clear blue water, his leathery back shining with sun and perspiration. Nothing could distract him from his work, nothing, except maybe, a king.
stem
"So you see, Miss Cornwalle, insolence stems from kindness just as revenge stems from injustice. What you have taken under your wing has lashed back at you with the bitterest thorns of adolescent impudence. I hope you see what you've done." She hung her head.
braid
She could do nothing but stare at the light, fluffy pastries in the donut shop. One looked like a big thick braid, just like Momma would do to her big sister Essie, the pretty one with the red hair.
