The trees towered over me, sheltering me from the imminent rain. I was comfortable. I was safe, and I felt that I would make it through this. Funny how a few leaves shining above me can do that, make the world feel safe.

With cheek he turned to me and gave a smart remark, smart for a smarty pants. But that's how it goes when one is working with teens who like to act like they're smart and have too many hormones coursing through their wacky bodies and brains. That's all right, though. Eventually they'll just get weird like I am and deal with other teens who are acting with cheek.
