  9. Scouring across the green mesa. I paused to catch a scent on the wind. Peacebloom! I moved quickly with the wind to find the rare and precious flower. I stooped over with my knife and cut the bloom off below the first set of leaves.

  15. There is nothing quite as wonderful as the beauty of a wildflower – standing in some place unexpected just waiting to bless the person that walks by. A wildflower is God’s gentle reminder that He is with me no matter what. It is His smile here on earth. A wildflower is a beautiful thing.

  21. Wildflower honey. Wildflower meadow. I had a wildflower meadow seed packet once, but when I spread the seeds out in front of the house I couldn’t tell if any of them germinated – because the front of my house was full of wildflowers! How silly. Lovely black-eyed-susans and jack-in-the-pulpits. I love daisies best. I used to tear up queen-anne’s-lace along the prairie path in Illinois

  27. the wildflowers used to grow in my grandmother’s backyard. at least, that’s how i thought of them up until the ripe old age of eighteen. her garden was abloom with randomness. i could see no sense in the madness, but i loved it that way. to this day i feel as if she scattered the seeds in a fit of randomness and their beauty grew just as she willed them to.

    Back when.

It used to be a field.

  37. “Wildflowers?” she asked. “Really?” Her nose wrinkled, a tiny line forming between her eyes.

My chest constricted, everything about her committed to memory so very, very effortlessly. Fuck, I thought to myself. If only I could just *say it*, just tell her how I feel.

  39. It’s fall right? October and the dust is flying and everyone is dabbing their eyes in all this fucked up matrimonial joy. I’m 3, right? And this wind is a bitch and this man is a bastard and my mom doesn’t know her ass from the flower in her hair. Fuck it, I’m off to throw the petals.

  40. the wildflower wasn’t native to that town, and flowers certainly aren’t native to 7-eleven parking lots. But with the laws of nature and botany pushed to the back of my mind, I knelt down to pick the flower.
