  1. It was dark and at the early hours of the day. Kazu’s house was cluttered and I knocked down his pile of thumbtacks. They scattered on the floor and I didn’t know where to step. My feet didn’t move.

  2. I love the feel of thumbtacks on your fingers. Who really uses their thumb, anyway? I prefer the flat-headed metal ones with the coating of red, blue, green – primary colours. So much fun!

    by Jennifer Leiker on 02.06.2010
  3. The thumbstack was sticking to the cork and I did not know what to do with it. It stared at me as if it had intention; I panicked. I pried it away from the cork with my fingernails and threw it to the ground where it rattled against the cold tiles of the bathroom floor. “Why do I have a cork board in the bathroom anyway?”

    by Hannah on 02.06.2010
  4. thumbtacks are great when you need to post something on a bulletin board cuz tape doesn’t work so well…ummmm i’m just rambling about the thing about thumbtack. that’s dumb.

    by anna on 02.06.2010
  5. I have placed a thumbtack in every place I have ever been.

You might think that means I have a map on my wall that I collected places I’ve visited on, but that would not be true.

I literally carry a small container of thumbtacks, which I then dutifully push into every place I’ve ever been.

Subways. Libraries. Classrooms. Bedrooms. Malls, stores, even bathrooms. And sometimes, it’s hard to get those thumbtacks into places (wouldn’t want to stab anyone!), but I always work hard, because I think about those people who see these thumbstacks and wonder.

Because that’s what life is really all about.

    Wonder.

  6. OUch. Thumbtacks hurt. Someone could put them on your chair and you could sit on them and that would hurt. Like this time my friend was sitting next to me in class and the guys behind him pulled his chair out and he fell down. I saw it and didn’t do anythign to stop it becuase it was so funny. But he had lasting tailbone issues after that. Kinda my fault. Mea culpa.

  7. yesterday, carla asked me again for a thumbtack. or fifty. she has asked me for aspirin everyday for several years. i really don’t mind, but it’s funny how she can’t seem to get her own stuff. wonder what that is. too much else going on, i suppose, like all of us.

  8. the thumbtach stuck it my finger, but i couldnt feel it, the steady stream of blood was growing but it didnt make a difference. my mum called me again , asking what was wrong. the next thing i remember is waking up in a white room with nothing but the bed i was on. no windows doors , anything. the gleam blinded me. they were coming.

  9. owie why would i want to talk about a thumbtack, they hurt when you step on them and they never actually work for me. and it reminds me how i broke a glass last night and im mad cause i actually liked this glass. and i havent cleaned it up yet. i like the big thumbtacks in different colors.

  11. Sometimes I wish I could pin people to the wall. Either because I want them to be near me always, or because I don’t ever want to see them. Ever. Again.

    by comatherapy on 02.06.2010
  13. “Squish.”

Somehow, that’s the sound I always think of when I push a thumbtack into a bulletin board. It just seems so fitting. The corky material of the board yields to the tack easily, getting pushed aside by its sharpened tip.

    by vish on 02.06.2010
  14. I don’t even know what this word mean. But it makes me think of thumbs. And thanks. Think thanks. Maybe. Tack means thanks in Swedish. I think. Thank.

Think Thank is a great album. Blur is a great band.

  15. Thmubtack. I’m drawing a blank. What can be said? I know I hate to step on the little B*s. Especially the clear pushpins that one cannot see when they hit

    by nancy* on 02.06.2010
  16. It pushed itself into my skin, slowly drawing out a drop of blood. The pain was instant, and didn’t linger. Relief washed over me…

    by Brittney on 02.06.2010
  17. thumbtack. through my shoe. bleeding on the concrete. kids staring. little girl crying. mothers attempting to shush them. i enjoy pain. i live off of pain. tattoos, piercings, cutting. love it. so when i stepped on a thumbtack at the office today, i walked all the way to starbucks with it jammed in there. and smiled the whole way back.

  18. the most annoying little thing in the world yet so useful. to loose them in the carpet sucks and stepping on them is totally horrible. its a good invention though to hang things and to have something to pair with the cork board.

    by haley on 02.06.2010
  19. I hate your thumbtack.
“Why must you use that word? What part of it is so unhappy that you must say so?”
I hate it because you have used it for abuse.
    “Please. Leave me be. Forgive.”
    Goodness gracious.
    Goodbye.

  20. You use thumbtacks to pin things to walls. Ideas, pictures, posters. Things that represent YOU. Things that remind you of important dates or people. Everything you are, thumbtacks hold in place.

  27. i have a multitude of these in my bedroom though they tend to end up on the floor more than the actual corkboard where they should reside. i am often too lazt to retrieve them from their floor and wind up stepping on them in a spaztic “i’m running very late” type dance.

    by jesse Brady on 01.01.1970
  28. placed on his chair or was it mine? little kid, black, red shirt. picked on me? I can’t remember. I got him in trouble though, by lying. exaggerating? I think so. I remember crumbling under the weight of the guilt and confessing years later.

  30. thumbacks are used to hold paper. one time i had a thumbtack in my purse and i stabbed the shit outta my finger. it hurt alot. even though thumbtacks are useful they still hae a negative pointy side to them. so thumbtacks may be found in offices.

  31. what teachers sit on when the students have been naughty. What my friend uses to hold up the cards with the stupid things I say written all over them. What I wish I could poke Evan with.

  32. Thumbtacks…hmm…I really don’t know what to say about them. The first thing I thought of was how I need some to hang up a poster in my dorm, but I really prefer the sticky tack. Meh, who cares really.

    by Brittany on 01.01.1970
  33. i went to push it into the wall, but the edges were bent and it wouldn’t go in right. the poster hung limp in my hands as i tried tyo figure out where i was going to look for tacks again. i shuddered at the thought of my teacher being ashamed of me. i had nails in my back from her

    by izam on 01.01.1970
  34. It was stuck. In the time I need it to come out with the most ease, I have to pry it out. Now the students will be starring at my ass for the next 2 minutes will I peel the darn thing off the board. Well, at least I have a nice ass.

    by Will on 01.01.1970
  35. thumbtack. simple, occasionally painful, but extremely useful wonder. the thumbtack never ceases to astound me in its ability to puncture my favorite photos and hide itself in odd drawers and draw blood from my fingers while still being completely essential.

    by Elisabeth on 01.01.1970
  36. the pin pushes back, imprinting itself on my thumb as I try to drive it through the paster. I suck it, and think that maybe David Cassidy isn’t worth it.

    by drew on 01.01.1970
  37. Ouch! After putting aound 5+ of these they start to gurt your fingers! They are very useful though! I few weeks ago a friend was over visiting at my house, and she brought her little pomerain, he was running around in the kitchen eating something, so I reached in his mouth. It was a THUMBTACK! Crazy dog, he ate half of the handle off!

  40. I love thumbtacks simply because they keep my posters up. So help me if my room becomes the white desolate wasteland it used to be. They leave many holes from calenders and such. They bring me color.
