  3. a shift is the most intesnse 30-50 seconds of a hockey players life. there should be nothing left in the tank when a player comes flying to the bench for a change. A shift is finished when the puck is safely away from the goalie and you have finished your task – play hard.

A man behind me got impatient and he backed up to go around me and he hit another car! I felt horrible, but thought that it served him right for being impatient with me.

  13. Shift gears from thinking to just writing and don’t edit, don’t think, just write. The idea is that you don’t want to criticize what you’re doing, because that just slows you down. Just do it, don’t think about it. It’s hard to do, surprisingly. It feels like hard work. It’s a relief to switch away to check email or a blog. It’s a little failure but it feels like a relief at the time, like stopping to walk when running gets hard.

  21. some people refuse, flat out refuse to use the shift key. i’m not entirely sure why. is it that they believe all letters are equal, and there should be no preferential treatment? is there a depressing lack of self confidence, to capitalize the “i” in the sentence because of the belief you’re not worthy of the extra attention? or is it a snub towards others, a general fuck you to say that no one is worth the extra millisecond to press that extra button, to rebel against the conforms of society?

  27. it’s a button on your keyboard, that you can use for stuff like capitalization. Well, if you’re not lazy like I am. Or it’s like moving something. Like, to shift from one place to another. Wait no, that sounds dumb. Or you could like shift gears in a car. But it has to be a manual. Hence the term ‘stick-shift.’ yeah. that’s shift.

I just looked at him standing there kneading dough and smiled to myself… he was on special guy!
