  5. It drops. Pick it up & it brings you luck. Pennies from heaven. Look after them & the pounds will look after themselves. There are so many hackneyed expressions regarding the humble penny, and yet, our society would not function without pennies and pounds it seems. They dominate what we do. We work hard to earn them, try our best to save them, and yet, they slip through our fingers like water at times.
They are both precious and cursed to me. I strive for a better life, but I so hate that I am ruled by them. One needs an awful lot of pennies to buy a house, or even rent one, and a car to drive to the place of work where we earn them. I can almost hear the penny dropping into the leaky bucket that is my bank account, as I sit here, not working…

  11. The penny dropped. Not just dropped, but rumbled all the way down the street. I chased after it – both in body and in mind. Why hadn’t I thought of that before? Why hadn’t it sunk in? Why hadn’t I listened? Damned penny! Such an invaluable jewel in these circumstances. Surely – would save a life?

  13. I hate pennies. They’re worthless by themselves. However, if a person can get a shit load of pennies, he or she can have at least a few dollars. I like dollars better though. Not only do dollars have more monetary value, but they are easier to transfer. Pennies jingle and roll around. How is a person suppose to carry a bunch of pennies around?

  20. I picked up a penny the other day and I thought to myself, hmm, what can I do with this?

I took the penny to the grocery store, which I was heading for anyhow, and walked over to the vending area with all the gum and sticker and plastic crap spewing machines, thinking how nice it would be to have a piece of gum to chew on while I walked through the store.

What I saw shocked me — there was NOTHING I could buy for my shiny new penny (Okay, the beat up, dingy old penny I found lying on the ground, not even heads up for good luck). My mood was going sour.

I thought back to my youth when a penny would have purchased not 1, but 3 pieces of gum! That’s right! I would stick my hard earned (or more often than not, greatly begged for) penny into the slot and out would come 3 pieces of gum. God, I got old somehow.
