  2. Fluorescent lights are torture, that flicker so quick that the eyes can’t perceive it and the cool stark blue that makes everything cold and corporate and painful. Sometimes there is even the noise, outside the range of hearing but irritating nonetheless. And yet by making them little the world is supposed to adopt this torture. Not me. I will wait for the LED, coming soon to a wattage near you, with no flicker and no mercury.

  6. The lights were dark though they were bright at the same time, I was being wheeled at a fast speed down through doors and a hallway and through the whole time I saw these lights. They were fluorescent, yellow but not yellow and bright, very bright. The only thing keeping me awake. Not even the screaming above my head coming from multiple voices could keep my attention like these lights over my head, almost like sunshine. Maybe this is the light people speak of when they say, “I saw the light.”

  7. The lady entered. She looked around, suspicious of our formation, which any sane person would be. The fluorescent light cast a ghostly glow on her terribly pale complexion. She never got over that illness after all.

  8. The lighting in the movie theater made the girl cringe in disgust. Man, leaving the house she thought that she looked decent, perhaps even pretty. But the damn fluorescent movie theater bathroom lights certainly changed that. Her hair was sticking up all over the place, her skin had more bumps than a mountain range, and her eyes looked like a drug addicts’.

  10. The fluorescent lights were blinding for the first few weeks. But eventually I got used to them, so used to them that being home without them seemed strange. I almost asked if I could stay the night at the asylum more times than I could count, but I’d always snap myself back into reality in time.

  12. Ahh florescent. How annoying can it get?! The lights just seeping through your eyes like some sort of laser! It’s truly terrible! The colors are the definition of obnoxious as well! It’s like they follow you and you can’t escape! The constant headaches, the sickening nausea… it’s almost as if you are being questioned by the police! Ya hear me?

  13. fluorescent light, fluoride, makes me think of rainbows which makes no sense at all. Fluorescent lights in schools, elementary schools especially. So uniform, reminds me of 3rd grade. Mrs. Wong’s class was my favorite. Schools, hospitals, clean places, formal places.

  14. I am shining, no, glowing. I can feel my light stick gently to its surroundings. As I walk in this dark, cold world, my inner beauty and calm somehow provides a ray of warmth and light. I am peace.

  15. As the Tchaikovsky tune slowly dwindled to one low, dragged-out key, the fluorescent bulbs above his head flickered to life. He glanced up, and carelessly brushed the radio with one hand, knocking it over. It tumbled to the floor, the resounding crash echoing around the empty chamber.

  20. lightbulbs are beautiful things until they are made fluorescent. They’re disgusting and drain the colour away from faces like you wouldn’t believe. I hate it and think that all lights should be incandescent. I work at a print shop and everything is fluorescent. Gross.

  21. Fluorescent light brought different thoughts than those made in natural light. She found her ideas were more skeptical and less original, but they were the kind of decisions which didn’t rock the boat, the kind of decisions which were most welcome in that environment. They were the kind of ideas which made her hate her job and keep it at the same time.

God only knows what horrors awaited her there for there was no way of thinking. only reacting and getting away from the source of evil behind her. All that was in her mind was escaping and that was all she was doing…running as far as possible.

  24. I like fluorescent light bulbs, but they are supposed to be actually bad for the environment. The word “fluorescent” is also ridiculously hard to write… which makes me not like it. That’s kind of annoying. Why do they have to spell it like that? And Mr. Roads is obsessed w/ them. What if I, like, wrote some sort of essay in this thing?

  26. This always happened… no matter where Geoff went, he would find himself letting go, lost in the moment, encompassed in the grasp of a larger power than his own being… sometimes it would be at the bar, sometimes in a residential area, or sometimes just when the moon shone. This time however was different- the flourescent light which drew him in was a one-way ticket, with an electrified grid encircling its inert gases. Below, the diner carried on as normal, orders piling up and the questionable hygiene bolstering the immunity of the regulars.

  27. The hum of lights as I enter the store. Too bright. Staring. Maybe I didn’t have time to change out of my work uniform. Maybe I had to bring all of my children because another sitter quit. Maybe I can’t handle this.

  28. The fluorescent brilliance of a newfound truth. It’s been a while and we’re still waiting for the storm to pass. It’s more than a force of nature out there and we’re here, alone. Alone to endure. There’s a breaking point and I see it.

  29. Eating a large sausage that tasted of fermented cheese, I cowered my head as the fluorescent, artificial light intoxicated my brain chemistry. I wonder, does anyone enjoy this? Does anyone voluntary give up their time to enter these realms? Waiting and more waiting, in this stench of disease and death, with the stains of grease ridding and rested heads on the chairs. How long will they keep me waiting?

  31. blinding bright hospital corridors are all i see wen i close my eyes. the lights flicker and buzz with memories of those who have walked their halls.

  32. Damn fluorescent lights. Whenever I try clothes on in a fitting room I always hate how they look because those damn lights show every little microscopic flaw. It makes almost anything look terrible on. It shows every little bit of cellulite. Thanks, like I don’t already know its there. RETAIL STORES: please put normal lighting in fitting rooms? Thanks.

  33. The fluorescent lights wear me out almost as much as the job itself. By lunch I am ready to quit. Every day. I take a walk and try to convince myself that I need to get my shit together and start applying myself again but I just can’t; I’m not in it anymore and I hate this place.

  34. As she ran, she followed the thin trail of light that was slowly dissipating as the sun set. Mali had no where to go, no one to run to, and when the sun finally set she found her way to an old motel. The florescent lights being the only comfort she had. At least by them she could see what was going on around her. But she didn’t dare sleep, not without some form of security at least…

  35. the fluorescent lights hummed overhead, spewing their sterile blue light over everything. everybody looked pale and sick, like the were dying or already dead. she shuffled down the hallway in her pink slippered feet, shuffling was something she had picked up since she began her stay here. Maybe it was from watching the crazies shuffle up and down the halls all day muttering to people who were there, or maybe it was just a necessary evil to keep theoe damned pink hospital slippers on her feet.

  37. I have never liked fluorescent lights. Too harsh. I was always in favor of sunlight really. It was always so damn beautiful, especially the way that everything looked perfect in sunlight, it was like mother nature was telling us that even if we aren’t perfect, she’ll help us become that. But with the artificial fluorescent lights everything becomes a lie.

  39. I was riding in a van with my aunt one summer day, and we had a box full of fluorescent tubes in the back. As we turned a corner, a spare tire fell over and onto the box of tubes. It sounded as if an explosion went off, and suddenly there was white dust everywhere. Once we’d figured out what had happened, we couldn’t stop laughing!

  40. The fluorescent lights did nothing for me. They made me look even sicker than I was. Yeah, they did that, and I was sick. Broken hearts can do that. it’s a wonder as to how. I guess they make you lose weight and feel like shit, just like the flu does. So that’s probably why I’ve lost ten pounds in two weeks, not motivation to eat, or do anything else. So standing here in this fluorescent light I look awful, but I’m trying to show him that he really didn’t bother me at all, that I’m fine, even though we both know that I’m not.
