  12. There was a beautiful fence outside his house. It had the most intricate design with angels and flowers, and I would often trace my fingers over it whenever I came by. The posts had balls with paintings on them, and it was gorgeous and colorful. The gate had a lock and key. There was always a smile on my face, even when we got stuck outside the gate. I even smiled when we brought his body through the open gate, and he was never to return home…

  13. When I was young I used to hop fences. I remember that I had to hop my 12 foot fence to go play with th eboy who lived behind me. The world would be so much nicer without fences. they are social blocks, much like the internet. The internet is your web, your fence.

  15. The white fence, always holding me in, and holding everyone else out. It would be that hard to jump, I don’t think. Then I could see him.

  16. There were several fences that surround the school where I went to first grade. They were not there so much for the protection of the children, but to keep the little buggers from fouling the garden next door. The farmer didn’t think very highly of having his carrots trampled by dozens of pairs of buster browns. Neither did the rabbits like sharing their lunch with noisy human kits! It was thus that the school yard should be forever surrounded by the maze of chain link, split rails and stockade.

  17. There are no fences around my house now. I used to have fences, to keep the dog in, but then I moved and no fences are allowed here. I guess we kept the neighbors out with our fences back then, because now the neighbors here walk where they could not if there were fences here.

  18. The fence that was built between me and my neighbour – it’s funny how it was never acknowledged. I liked him and all, but I wonder what it was that I was trying to keep out?

  24. Like most kids, I grew up around houses that were fenced in. They provided security, but also restricted us. How would we get out when there are fences around? How would other people get in? A whitewashed fence is, to me, a great symbol of innocence and a lost age.

  25. As he led me in a tour through the house, we exited into the garden. My hope of running away was so quickly snatched away from me. Everywhere i looked, all i saw were fences. Most are made to keep people out. These fences were built to keep us in, locked forever. There were fences separating every area, as far as i could see. This is going to be a long year

  33. We put up a lot of artificial fences between ourselves and our neighbors. Maybe some are needed; no one wants an excess of familiarity. But some are just plain stupid. For example, why not go in and buy a lawnmower together? Why should two families each put out that much money if one mower is enough for both?

  36. Fences in the rough. I stand there at the white picket fence, staring up at the house. It’s perfect. Small but nice. Homey. I should be living there, with her. It should be our house. Not his.

    by Alexis on 08.03.2010
  37. There are so many fences in this world, imaginary and real. We put them up around ourselves as if they can protect us from everything that happens, but sometimes we just need to tear them down.

  38. Are barriers for sheep. If they did not exist sheep would go to the laundrette to wash their wool and feel silky and smooooth. On the way back from the laundrette they would stop to play pitch and toss and get in a rucus.
