I wonder sometimes if I've been lucky. I know people whose lives seemed plagued with bad luck - untimely deaths, illnesses, fights. In contrast, my life has had its share of hardship, but nothing so drastic. Is luck merely the absence of darkness?
Greek mythology was so exciting to read as a child - imagining beautiful robes and mythical creatures and great legends. Then you grow up and you realize how twisted they really were.
I have this adorable jar of paper clips on my shelf back in my dorm - a place that increasingly feels more like home than the place I spent my childhood. The jar is little and perfectly round, with a nice dark pink lid. It is filled with colorful paper clips. I once made a bracelet out of the pink ones to remind myself not to eat. It hasn't worked, though.
At least not yet.
