I didn;t know if i wiould actualy enjoy the sport, i wanted to give it a go! so i joined some clases. i went for 3-4 classes, and then gave up! my sense of balance was so amazing, that i just kept tripping over myself! it was extremely funny and ended up as a hilarious event on the whole. rather than make a fool of myself i thought it better to just give it up and save face

  3. reminds me of kate winslet, that’s kinda weird, isn’t it.
Skate Kate just won an Oscar, how cool is that? A little girl from Reading, a place you just DON’T want to grow up around, makes it to Tinseltown and wins a little statue made of gold for playing a nazi with a good heart.

  8. no i don’t. But I have friends who do. One fell once and broke his arm, and another fell another time and hurt her back so badly she had to go to hospital. Stil, sometimes I wish I did, the freedom of wheels and air and the city beneath you is a luxury sensible people seemingly can’t afford, trapped as we are, as it were, in cars instead.

  9. When I was a young child, I used to skate. With roller skates. Eventually I wanted to be cool and get roller BLADES like everyone else. I honestly didn’t like the skates, nor do I to this day. I recently bought a pair of skates from Ebay that I do plan to wear soon.

  11. i skate through life lately.. Just going through the motions… not really knowing what I will role by but i just keep on going…. I wish it were back to a time when i could just rollerskate and be happy. Now I look for love at every second and boggled by the fact that I haven’t found it.

  12. i used to go to the skating ring every week when i was a kid in daycare. it was right across the street from us. i remember me and my sister used to fall on purpose in front of my mom so she would feel sorry for us!

  13. I loved to skate when I was a child. Going fast, down the river that served as our skating rink in small town Saskatchewan. The cold would bite at your nose and the wind would push you along. There was hope that I might one day escape.

  15. ah skate….what a beautiful word. Looks like stake but really isnt. Skate is also the term used to describe a social affliction that is present in homo homo sapiens that is characterised by an exhibition of extreme and complete trance in the state of sexual desperation.

  16. One time I was skateboarding and this kid just stuck a stick out and tripped me up. I flew way way way off the board, broke my leg in twelve different places, but somehow no part of my bone actually shattered so no amputation was needed. It just sucks cause a few days later I got gangrene in my right arm….

    by Mitch on 02.27.2009
  17. There was a time when I used to love the way it felt, gliding across the smooth surface of the skating rink. The feel of the air beneath my blades as I pushed on, almost flying, was amasing. I would pretend that I was an angel, up in the sky. But then it all crashed down, when I fell and broke my knee. Now every time I see a skating rink, I see a painful memory instead of a floating one.

  18. i used to like to skate. i remember this one time my wheels fell off in mid stride. embarrasing. i miss skating. it felt so free. i never could get used to inline skates though. 60 seconds is a long time, man. i know nothing about skating.

  19. i took ice skating lessons when i was in the fourth grade. with my best friend. i never learned to do more than spin, no jumps or anything, but i felt incredibly accomplished (especially considering that i was so clumsy!) we would skate all afternoon. a few years later we were no longer friends, and now our lives have taken on completely different meanings.

i still wonder about her, though. i hope she’s happy.

  20. iceskates have always terrified me. Ever since i saw the video on youtube of the man getting his throat slit. SO MUCH blood. I was not meant to be on ice, so i have avoided it fairly consistently throughout my life. I don’t plan on going on ice intentionally for a good while.

  22. I remember our first date. It was wonderful. We went; we ate, we had fun. We danced by the lake, listened to cheesy music, laughed, kissed, loved. Oh wait what was the word? Skate…oh no we didn’t skate.

  23. Skater dudes. Reminds of the porn. Why do I go to that site? It’s a good site. RJ’s a fan. Nifty.com. What else does it remind me of? Florham Park Roller Rink. And, inversely, the Rak Shalom CD. Early 90s techno. Birthday parties. Jackie Z breaking her arm… or something. I stilll hearr your voice when it something next to me… I could never skate. I skated with the normal ones, but never bladed. I never felt cool.

  24. My roommates recently bought the Xbox 360 game Skate. It’s supposed to be a grungier version of the Tony Hawk games but it feels just about the same although the tricks are easier to perform with a stick than button mashing.

  25. It is something I used to do with my friends, like as in skateboarding. It could also be thought of as like rollerbladding, or ice skating. Yeah I don’t do to much of it anymore because of the fact that I am focusing on other things in my life.

  26. Seattle years ago. The skatepark that I went to, and acted like I knew what I was doing. Being breath-taken by the city. Dreaming of being there, and still to this day wanting to attend UW. All from that trip.

  27. I think about that Joni Mitchell song: “I wish there was a river, I could skate away on…” The song takes place during Christmas and is about having an abortion, I believe. But I love the idea, the metaphor, behind skating away on a river being a way to escape your life. I think everyone wishes they had a river they could skate away on.

  28. she skates along on borrowed time, looking for a way out, knowing it’ll never be there. she’s stuck in this nightmare, feeling nothing but pain and suffering, pleading with those surrounding here to take the three goddamn seconds to at least pretend to care and getting nothing in return for her kind gestures.

    by stix on 02.27.2009
  29. skating is the thing that little boys do to passd the time between being a child and becoming a man, this dont mean becoming responsible anbd all that jazz, just mean there are things we do as children that we dont ussually do as adults, so it stands to reason that this is as iv put it, and its not just little boys either.

  30. It’s like floating above the surface of the black pavement of our civilian streets. Only a few inches above surface level, your speed increases as you float even faster and suddenly, you encounter a tiny pebble. Next thing you know, your kissing the ground. This is not a pleasant kiss.

  33. When I was little I had a pair of fisher price skates that expanded and got more difficult as you got older. They made a strange cranking sound as if I were a machine and my motion of skating powered my little engine. To this day, I do not understand the purpose of making it MORE difficult to skate, I thought maybe to make you used to disappointment.

    by kristen on 02.27.2009
  34. As if I knew how, she thought. What was he thinking to ask me here? I can’t even stand up straight. He’ll probably drag me all over the rink and swing me into the wall. If that’s so, then here comes my fist. A FISTUAL EXPERIENCE.

  39. the ice may be thin, but that has never stopped us before. We have always been so fond of walking that line, trampling it until it is blurred to an afterthought, a myth. A story with no ending.

no skates for us, just prayers and warm hands, cold fingers and open eyes to aid us on this journey, this juggernaut of days.

  40. if i was to say that i can not then i would be a lier.
it is more that i do not enjoy the falling down and hurting myself. though i some times dress liker a skater and have a board, i am not one myself. but to all those who can an do i admire you for it looks freeing and enjoyable and after all we are becoming a green society and there is no carbon emissions generated by skating t your destination. maby we all should be taoght to skate ride and flow through life cutting down on our impact and creating a fluid society as we all skate .
