  1. It’s supposed to be forever. So why do I think that forever isn’t long enough for this one? Is there a word for a promise which goes beyond the end of time?

    by Jen on 01.08.2013

  3. He promised he was my friend, and he always would be.
    And then he wasn’t.
Then after we were sad and then we were angry and then we had hate I told him:
“Don’t you dare lie to me.”
    But he said:
“I will always lie to you.”
So what is a promise? Was everything a lie?

  4. I promise to keep you warm in the winter. I promise to hold your hand in a crowded street or an empty one. But what good is a word. Words don’t have purpose or feeling, words are letters connected by invisible glue. I promise to make this more than a word. More than a string of letters. I promise to withhold every promise I make to you.

    by Mariah Lang on 01.08.2013
  5. Promises are the easiest of all comitments made and also the cheapest. Promise the sky and deliver a mouse. That is unfortunately the fate of most promises.

  6. Its like you promise someone to do something for sure
    Done deal
    Be honest
    Commit your self
    Pinky promise
    Swear

    by Shaden on 01.08.2013
  7. promises. They are hard to keep sometimes and they can hurt people’s feelings. Promises to yourself are even worse. I promised to myself that I would work harder in school and here i am, just beginning a paper that is due friday.

  8. I gave her the ring and she just stared at it, not speaking.

“It’s a promise ring,” I said, trying to fill the silence.
“A promise of what?” she asked, twisting it in her hands, not slipping it on her finger.

  9. I promise to share and be a friend, ‘ she says to the rest of the girl guides. But what really is a promise anyways? Empty, lost, unfulfilled words. That’s what they are. Yet we all seemingly pretend we know what they are. We all seemingly forget how important they can be to some people. What a shame.

    by Bambi on 01.08.2013
  10. the hope that there is something waiting for you, something better. a promise, trust between two people that there will be more than just this.

    by Purvi on 01.08.2013
  11. Promises, promises. And none of them kept.

They promised her advancement. Then they said they couldn’t do it, but
they’d make up for it with a raise. But then they said the budget came
up short; maybe she could take off a few extra days. But then the
workload increased and she couldn’t even do that.

    except my life
I can only tell you I don’t love you
and leave you to figure out
    I don’t mean I never will
and I do mean I’ll never leave
    (until, maybe, until I do)
    (until I love you)
I can promise there is an end to everything
    and that means your life
    and my sanity
    and how much I know
    I can promise I’ll try
and I’ll go wild before you ever let me go

  15. They’re made to be broken
    Like seashells under foot
    And crumpled paper in backseats
It’s like those old vodka bottles rolling under foot
And the sticky pleather lining the backs of bare thighs
They are heating with every moment
    A slick trip from A to Z.

  16. promise is hope. Is something you are waiting for. Something that could be real till the moment that come true (or not). Its almost a fact. Its dreaming. Its trying to do/be something. Is just an essence

  19. Promise is a funny word, because for some people, it seems to just naturally imply the opposite of its dictionary definition. Much like “unicorn”, people hear promise and don’t think of it as a concrete concept, but rather as a deception.

I promise to always give you my all and treat you the way you should be treated. With nothing but kindness, forgiveness and respect. I promise.

  23. ((automatically think of atla cause thats the kind of person i am)
I held her hand as she cried aloud, part scream and part something i hope to never hear again.
the nurses try to tell her she’s doing so well
but she’ll have no such thing
    i squeeze her hand tighter
neither of us is sure how today will end

  24. promises are made every day. as kids we’d say “pinky promise?” the truth is most promises are broken because we are not al perfect and we cannot keep everything. one great promise was never broken and thats God’s promise of sending Christ to die on the cross for us and to save us from our sins and give us eternal life.

  25. Vows fall upon deaf ears. To have and to hold, in sickness and in health. After the first round of chemo she took one look at me, emaciated with my hair falling out by the lock, and she wouldn’t have me, or hold me. She wouldn’t even touch me. Two weeks later she was with another man.

  26. The promise she made was a lie. It always was and always will be, regardless of what she said or thought that she believed. Her smiles continues, and her sadness was always expressed the same. Yet no matter how many times she attempted to communicate, she never meant to listen. She never meant to change the things needed to maintain her relationship with her daughter. She would never leaver her comfort zone.

  27. “I promise you for a better future. I will promise you that everything will be okay.” She whispered into her child’s ear.
The mother caressed the back of Adaline’s head. Her cooing calmed the child from tears to a coddling slumber. The soft voice whispered comfort for tomorrow’s worries, even if they were momentary. For how could a mother ignore the cries of child? The cries caused by those close to her, those meant to be caretakers and guides into the world.
Cherry frowned as her daughter’s breathing regulated.

  28. I promise…what a great word for the New York. A resolution a promise. Promises made, promises not kept. Is it easier to break a resolution when you do not think it’s a promise? Are promises to yourself not as bad to break while those to others are horrendous?

  29. okay, i won’t. i won’t.

  30. The promise of this day is not what I had hoped or expected. Still, it’s a good day. I am whole and happier than I planned to be. There is more wealth and richness than I looked forward to finding.

  31. I promise you that I will do all I can to make this work. I want to put your happiness and comfort before my own and treat you with all the love you deserve. You are such a blessing. A work of art. I love you beyond comprehension.

  32. I promise I’ll learn to value the human race and its ethics and morals. I’m human and because of that I made a promise to protect and serve humankind. I also promise to do away with any negative feelings.

  33. I promise that your finger won’t fall off….
How could she say that to me and lie? Ugh, Mom was always making empty promises and now I was short one finger. Great. Her lies and now I was a cripple in a world of ten fingered jerks. I hate my life.

  34. I wish I could rely on promises. I wish that everyone held them in as high regard as I do. I grew up with parents, siblings who did. I thought everyone did and had to learn the hard way. It has been a painful, painful lesson.

    by KDF on 01.08.2013
  35. you promised me a part of you that you knew you couldn’t give. it was easy to swear it would only be mine, only belong to me, because you knew that there was no chance i would ever find it. you knew that by saying it was mine, that was enough to get me by. that i would never actually try to find it or use it, or touch it. you knew i was only looking for the promise of love.

  36. I promise no matter what happens I will be there for you. Every fall, every scrape. I will always be there for you. You are all that matters to me. With every breath I wish I was close to you. I wish you would rap your arms around me, and I would whisper that I love you in your ear.

  37. the strength of a promise is not to be toyed with. it is a dangerous thing that raises hopes and desires. A broken one can shatter the spirit, destroy trust, and dismantle relationships. The best way to handle this difficult situation is just not to make promises. What happens will happen and I hope you learn to trust my actions.

  38. I promise to do what I Can to and for you.. but what do you promise? is there a point to a promise or am I just hoping there is a real meaning behind this promise? Realistically a promise might just be the biggest set up for disappointment, but i rather be disappointed every time in hopes one day you’ll keep that promise.

  39. i will. until the end. stand by you until i can’t hear anymore. i will hear the bumps and the baps and the boombaps. because that’s what we do. we are until it stops. til death do us hiphop, we will be here, best friends until the music ends. until it stops playing and they stop dancing. until the hands drop and the guns blast.

  40. Of a new day. Or the end of what was said. Give it back because it was never deserved. Showing up to an optimistic level of wellness and throwing down all what was said.
