  6. I jumped into the pool, and then remembered that I couldn’t swim. How had I managed to forget such a basic premise. I didn’t know, but my body remembered that I didn’t know how to swim, and I began to sink, water filling my lungs. I thought, this is where old age gets you, you forget the most basic stuff. Shit.

  7. swimming in a pool is exhilarating. however water which fills a pool reminds me of fluids and fluid statics and fluid dynamics which coincidentally i hate right now. SO i love something that fills me with hatred. Joy…

  8. The clear pool was so inviting, I just had to jump in. I was poised, ready to dive, when I noticed a thin string of blackish looking beads floating. They were like mini black pearls. As I looked more closely I realized that they were streaming out behind two toads. One on top of the other.

  9. I was swimming in the pool and I thought, “why not?” I pooped in it, right there in the pool. Like in caddyshack where they think it’s poop but it’s a candy bar–only Bill Murray would have a much worse taste in his mouth.

  11. Into the pool. Thoughts of Preston at the pool up at the lake (seems redundant, I know) in the summers. He loves the water. Mental image is of me, in the water, while he gets out, and begins to run around the edge. I tell him to stop. He, of course, ignores me.

  22. I used to spend my summers at the pool, where the lifeguards knew my group of friends and I, though I bet they wished they didn’t know us, as we made them earn their paychecks, watching out over our antics, guarding our lives through endless games of Marco Polo and Sharks & Minnows, swim races, hand stands, “Spider”, and Martha Washington Hair (the game).

  28. The pool froze over duly well to the climate’s attribution. Unfortunately, it was me who was present in it; I cannot tell whether or not it was my mother’s idea or mine that I head out in five in the morning trying to exercise.

Oh well, I might as well do it naked.

Girls passed me by wondering what I was doing. I invited them. They declined.

  29. The kids splashed around in the pool. It had been ages since Samantha had gotten in herself, now she just preferred to lounge around the edge. Until, of course, she met her eyes with Tyler’s and knew that she was done for.

She stood up for her chair and began drifting towards the shallowest end of the pool. She put one foot in and then the other, and began walking his way.

  35. Insects grazed the edge of its surface, along with moss, fallen leaves. I gazed into the muddy water without a reflection to gaze back at me. Thinking nothing of it, I lunged in – fully dressed – in one leap. Submerged, I opened my eyes and was still able to see nothing.

  39. Looking at her reflection in the pool.
She was pretty, just so haggard, tired and drained.
It made her look beautifully fragile, so weak and troubled.
She couldn’t swim, and she fell in with a splash.
A group of peopleimmiediately came and pulled her out of the water. She was too weak to struggle, and collapsed in their arms.
It was so cold, so cold.
