  1. not necessary. you can choose. some are good options, others are bad. its good to have options, though. you have more freedom. it isn’t locked in place.

    by Victoria on 08.18.2009
  2. In my attempts to refresh the website to get a different word to write about, I was in fact left no option but to write about “optional”.

    That’s ironic one would say.

    by Tim Frommeyer on 08.18.2009
  3. Optional. Is that not all we have in life? We don’t have to do anything. There is no compulsion for action. And yet we must, without it life is nothing. Without the unnecessary predilection and passion life is nothing.

    by Jonathan McJunkin on 08.18.2009
  4. Hmm. Optional. Options are so important in life. Without options, nothing is possible. There would be very little reason for existence if everything was laid out in front of us and we didn’t have to think about anything. Choices are made every day and the outcome of those choices affect you and everyone around you. Look at your options and make the best choices you can. It’s one of the most important things you can do.

    by Christopher on 08.18.2009
  5. your life is not optional, but how you spend it is. you have the option to live life or to sit back and watch others live it. have fun and go a little crazy but don’t get too OVER optional. have fun legally and dare to be dangerous, legally. OPTIONS. OPTIONAL. life.

    by Brittany on 08.18.2009
  6. It isn’t optional,
the butterflies threatening to choke me
or the tremors running through my toes.

You put a grin in my heart
that I haven’t felt in years,
    letting me breathe,
    letting me feel worthy
    of simply being me.

And if I catch my words on my tongue
in moments of quiet solitude with you,
    it’s because you’re perfect
and I know I’ll never match up.

    I want to keep you…
    but sometimes,
the things I admit scare people away.

    And this feeling isn’t optional…
    I think it’d be harder
    if it was
to admit that I love you like the moon.

  7. The choice is yours and yours alone. It might seem like the end of the world to you, so much weight on your mind. Purple lightning crackles through your body, your hair raises in the static of your inactivity. You’ll wonder what the fuss was all about in a few seconds.

    by r.a. on 08.18.2009
  8. I don’t like too many options because it is often hard to make a decision. woo, I can’t work under pressure so this really blows. I have no idea what the hell to write about on the word pressure. FUCK times almost up! vv.

    by ivan on 08.18.2009
  9. what is optional in your day? everything. you have the option to get out of bed. you have the option to go to work. you also have the option to take a shower, or leave the air conditioning on.

but you what are the consequences of choosing obviously the WRONG option?

    by Nia on 08.18.2009
  10. Happiness is optional

    by viviana on 08.18.2009
  11. I love optional things. Options allow us to make choices for ourselves. They let us choose the path that we will take, and ultimately, this path will lead to our future. Now along the way, we are bound to make some poor choices. But is that not the beauty of it all? We are creatures of failure, yet it’s this failure that helps us learn not only where we should go on from here, but it teaches us about ourselves. We learn from these failures our character, our passions, our strengths and weaknesses, and above all, our ability to persevere when times get tough and we have no choice but to press on or quit.

    by Jason P on 08.18.2009
  12. everything is optional. the only two things that aren’t optional are life and death. maybe that’s why people commit suicide because they want to control death. because it is optional WHEN you die and HOW.. but sometime you will die. People want to decide everything in their life. But maybe it’s good to have options.

    by Melissa on 08.18.2009
  13. Life is optional..death is not. We are free to give and take life, but death is thrust upon us whether we are ready, or not. Death we must learn to live with, so to speak, since it is beyond our control.

    by Che Richards on 08.18.2009
  14. Staying wasn’t optional. I had to go. And if I was going to do it….it was now.

I stood there at the door.

The threshold of my existance…the thing that held me back.

Closing the door on them forever was going to be hard.

    by Megan on 08.18.2009
  15. I love the word optional. I think we can have different ideas and thoughts to what we would like to do. We have OPTIONS! thats what the world is about. if we had one religion, we’d be miserable. well we already are……if you couldn’t vote for 2 people. that’d suck……………….

    by Jade on 08.18.2009

    by bristol on 08.18.2009
  18. Life isn’t optional….but we all like having options.

Life is mandatory and we should live it to the best of our ability, each and every day.

Living without the things or people we want shouldn’t be an option! We should believe in ourselves enought to obtain the life we want, with the people we want in it!

    by Annie on 08.18.2009
  19. optional. commitment was optional. love was optional. she looked at the photo of the once italian lover and wondered. could she go back. could she leave the US for him, leave her fiance for him, leave everything for him? She hated not knowing.

    by Brigitte on 08.18.2009
  21. It’s not like you have to do it. It isn’t mandatory. It’s encouraged, yes. And it would be highly appreciated. But it’s your choice. It’s all up to you. We’d just really really appreciate it. A lot. whatever you say is okay.

    by Drew on 08.18.2009
  22. choices, something I can believe in. Although I usually don’t like it when others don’t agree with my “option” even though that’s the point of an option.

    by Vanessa on 08.18.2009
  23. i’m the optional friend.

    good when you need
    some academic help, a shoulder
    to bitch on, something
    done.

    but when i need a friend, a
    companion, someone to listen
    to my upset ramblings —

    suddenly i am useless.
    suddenly you are allowed to
ignore me, to tell me i’m
being irrational, to make me feel
like i’ve done something terribly wrong
    when all i’ve wanted

    is someone to listen.

    by rachel on 08.18.2009
  24. It is not mandatory, only an option. It is up to your preferance, whatever you wish, wherever your desires take you. It is usually some extra, unnecessary but seemingly attractive feature or choice.

    by barbara on 08.18.2009
  25. i have an option to decide upon the world of hate and derision. I can believe in the opportunities of what I share and what I know of the world. No one needs tell me what I can and cannot do. That is there choice. Not mine. These are my words and I choose whatever comes to me as an aid. As an apparition of the soul. Never to tremble in fear if I so choose.

    by Michael Phillips on 08.18.2009
  29. There are choices that we can make and choices that we make before we realize we had even approached the crossroads. I saw the sign several miles back, but I had no idea I was here already. There are moments of clarity and moments of surprise; this is definitely one of that latter.

  34. I don’t want to do this. Nobody said I had to. But I guess I will choose to. What does it taste like? Can I have a chaser of ketchup? I heard you make the best ketchup in all the lands. What’s that… a little maple syrup? Some paprika? A hit of fresh human blood? You, sir, are a master. But you know, after eating that mouthful of whatever-it-was that you handed me, I don’t really need the chaser anymore. I just thought I did. It’s a hard thing to get a good grasp on.

    by Luke on 08.18.2009
  35. Why does everything have to have another option?
Why can’t there just be a straight answer?

    by david on 08.18.2009
  36. Going to college is optional. I chose not to go away, and I have regretted it ever since. Now my brother is gone and I am incredibly jealous. He will have great experiences and meet new people, while I will probably never get out of this stupid town.

    by Allison on 08.18.2009
  37. optional is not something that is required. it’s fun. fancy free. i like to see this word. particularly when it requires payment. Like for example, paying your cable bill this month is “optional.” Woo hoo. that would make me quite happy. I also think it’s odd that this word is sometimes used like, clothing optional. Quite suggestive i think. Hmm what else to think.

  40. it is optional to love some may say.
    well it isn’t.
and it’s not optional to be loveless. The loveless hate the beloved, for they have what the loveless want. But the beloved quantify and qualify their love, demanding more, and more, not understanding the lovelessness of life.
