  9. Oh, and they’re talking about the war again. And what’s going on in the Muslim countries. They call them “the Muslim countries,” almost fully with the finger quotes. And then there’s oil and who has it. Rich people with pipelines. How to get from here to there. And what my father did when I was 9.

  11. It wasn’t that he was angry at her, exactly, though he had every right to be. He was hurt. Yeah, yeah, he knows how cliche that is, you don’t have to tell him – but it’s true. The smug look on her face when she was finally caught – she’s been waiting for that day. It was clear. And that affected him much more than he would ever give her the satisfaction of knowing.

  20. Ruin relationships. I do not understand how people can stay together after one has had an affair. It is impossible for someone to fully have your heart if you are secretly letting another have a piece of yours.

  26. A romantic affair, also called an affair of the heart, may refer to sexual liaisons among unwed parties, or to various forms of nonmonogamy. Unlike a casual relationship, which is a physical and emotional relationship between two people who may have sex without expecting a more formal romantic relationship, an affair is by its nature romantic. Affair may also describe part of an agreement within an open marriage or open relationship, such as swinging, dating, or polyamory, in which some forms of sex with one’s non-primary partner(s) are permitted and other forms are not. Participants in open relationships, including unmarried couples and polyamorous families, may consider sanctioned affairs the norm, but when a non-sanctioned affair occurs, it is described as infidelity and may be experienced as adultery, or a betrayal both of trust and integrity, even though to most people it would not be considered “illicit.”
When a romantic affair lacks both overt and covert sexual behaviour and yet exhibits intense or enduring emotional intimacy it may be referred to as an emotional affair, platonic love, or a romantic friendship.

  27. Business affairs can lead to very bad ending in a good marriage. At work one day, Vinnie decided he would cheat on his wife with a prettier woman while on the job. Vinnie was happy all day until he returned home. He noticed that a note was on the kitchen counter. The note read, “I found out about the fun time you had today at work! I hope you have fun without me! I am leaving you forever!” Business affairs can end in a very tragic downfall in a successful marriage.

  33. Of all the affairs I could have attended, I chose the most quiet one. The one where there might be a lot of people but the conversations were introspective, real, and thoughtful. It wasn’t a crazy group and there wasn’t a lot of traditional “fun” but it was worthwhile.
