2. It was important to find them before the snow began to fall. The mother and her small child, their sense of direction turned back on to itself. Had they backtracked down into the valley, where they would find all the escape routes steep and tortuous? I concentrated on the small clues, the broken branches and the disturbed leaves. I would find them before the weather reached them.
