  1. My life is a shade of purple. Random i know. I was going to write grey but then i thought that was a bit pessimistic so i thought purple was neither here nor there. A kind of inbetween colour. Of course, oneword.com could actually mean a lamp “shade” , in which case ive rambled on pointlessly for the past minute.

    To steel your heart.

  5. What is hiding in the shade? Is it something scary or dangerous? Maybe it’s friendly but is afraid of being rejected?
We should embrace the things we don’t understand so that they are no longer scary.

    by Nikki on 04.12.2009

  8. cool lemonades sprinkle through your hair and you wonder why it’ll inevitably end, through pain and sadness because there will be none other than gloom that takes you away, but for now, you’re drinking iced tea in the hot melting sun that’s poured all over your skin and it’s fine,
    though not for
    long.

  12. Shade is such a relief while being in the hot sun or sunburned. The shade also helps my eyes because the sun can be too bright. There is another way to look at shade, and that is, a shady character.

    by claudia on 04.12.2009
  13. In the shade of a new years party, eleven little children came to visit their doggies. There was an old man waiting at the gate with a hammer, but he did not like to cheat. Fine gentlemen came walking by, walking by, walking by. A serial killer did not note the presence of jailbirds, and so moved on to Vancouver. Sixteen men stopped singing.

  15. I sat beneath the crab apple tree in my grandma’s yard. It had been a tempestuous day, having just learned that my parents were to get a divorce. It wasn’t a real surprise, after all–just something that had been building up pressure. I felt truly thankful for the thick leaves on the tree.

  21. Night. I couldn’t see. The shade was blocking my view. What did it say? The note in my hand was void if I couldn’t decipher it. What does it say? Anticipation made my forehead drip, and my heart take a faster pace.

    by ashlee on 04.12.2009
  22. As I sat under the tree, I thought of how the shade made the temperature seem to drop 20 degrees. I wiped the sweat off my forehead and glanced at the beach across the street. I wanted to dip my toes in, but after last week, I was very hesitant to even go near the water. What was I so afraid of? How could it have come to this? The shade felt comforting and safe and I wanted to stay here forever.

  23. What a shadowy place. Someone peers out of the corner with his beady blue eyes. You wave at them wondering what in the world they could want. And just like that when you acknowledged him, he vanished.

    by Shu on 04.12.2009

  25. I want to lay in the shade with you. I want you to kiss me, as the sun beams down on our face just like in the movies. But I have a feeling It wont happen. As much as I pray that it does I just don’t think it will. But i swear baby I’m going to keep trying. I wanna just make you happy.

  26. it’s dark and shadowy and comforting especially in a hot summer day. It reminds me of my dog who used to lounge in it all summer and the good time that were had as I and my brother ate popsicles or drank cola. It reminds me of the forested valley on mount royal which I explored one day hallucinating with someone I had partnered with but now we’ve parted ways. And it reminds me of similar valleys at the cottage.

  27. i stand in the sun
you stand in the shade, covered by an arbor of leafy boughs.
the sun beats down on top of my head radiating heat.
    i warm up
    you cool down.

you move back into the sun.

  28. Shade
    come help me
    i’m dying
    my skin
    is slipping away
    i can see the darkness
    so close
    so close
    will i have the courage
    to call it
    before i die?
    can i ask?
    will i?
    come save me
    from the unforgiving rays
    of the sun

    by Surfer on 04.12.2009
  29. Shade caresses me like cool water on my skin as I slowly turn red and melt in the sun like butter that was neglected on top of the microwave where nobody can see it because it’s behind postits which sadly don’t block the rays that will skew the molecules into a sloppy mess and nobody will save the butter that nobody can see.

    by Surfer on 04.12.2009
  30. The sun cast a bright, penetrating ray towards the slender lone tree. The tree had been there for 80 years. Planted by a boy who grew to be a man, its sole purpose was to provide shade for the ant farm beneath it. The Ant farm had been there as long the tree, longer in fact. The boy had had a thing for colonies ruled by a queen. And also, for being a drone.

  37. The weeping willow gave the man the shade he desired for the moment. He went through the process of setting his cane down and trying to comfortably seat himself. His bones creaked and his body ached as he sat on to the lush, green ground. He put his hat over his face and sighed. The willow swayed in the wind and slowly he drifted off to sleep.
