I had always lived with a pool close to me so I had never realized that I had it made until I moved to Texas where the heat is unbearable and the only one near me was the community pool. I missed the lonely cool pools that were found in California. Who needed pools then with the beach so close?

I jumped into the pool half expecting the rush of freezing cold water. What I was not expecting, however was the sqeezeing as air escaped out of my lungs. I relished the cold water although it hurt to breathe and stung to the touch.
