  1. it was between us
    the shadow beneath
    the sun
    and you felt comforted
    at the thought of death
    shaking his fist
    in god’s eyes
    and i wanted to say
    how the devil works in
    mysterious ways

    you’re pleased with yourself
    way too fucking pleased
    at the thought of surrendering
    to the white flag
    hanging above earth’s surface

She looked at him quizzically “But we have met. We met 3 years ago at Herbert’s Party at the lake. Don’t you remember?”
His face turned red, then white “You! I do remember. I tore your dress and tried to make you laugh about it.”
She smiled “I did laugh.. later.”

  4. This made Sister Mary angry, though she was hardly ever pleased. No one had seen her smile for years, really years. She didn’t laugh, or smile, or enjoy anything well besides being in control. Then you could see a slight smirk. She lived to make children redo projects they had spent weeks doing, rewrite essays and punish for the smallest things. She waited for you to slip, just one little mistake. BOOM! There goes your good day. Today she was unhappy because of the new girl. The new girl who seemed to do everything right, so right if she punished this child she would raise suspisions.

  16. I was pleased to see he had listened and left. I was pleased even more so to know the foreign, though missed, joy of being solo. There was no other to be concerned for, and the alarm is going off and he never hears it. He isn’t such a bad guy, it’s not that he can’t please me, I’m simply unpleaseable.

  18. Pleased is a state of being happy with what has been presented to you. I recall being pleased on numerous occasions, however the general feeling of being pleased fails to present itself in my life. I guess some people get it and others don’t.

My, not physically, of course. But it felt like that to her. Actually it felt like that to both of them. And neither did anything about it.

  22. I am pleased that I can, right at this moment, be pleased with who I am and where I am. I get to be in a place that I truly want to spend the rest of my life. When I hear the word pleased, a picture an evil villain with his hands clasped together plotting the demise of the world comes to mind, but really – pleased is, even just for a moment, wanting nothing else in the world.

  28. He was very pleased that he was able to go home so early from work. John didn’t think he could take another minute of his boss’s loud mouth. She was practically SCREAMING that they had had an affair, and on her office phone no less! ‘What am I going to do?’ he couldn’t help but think the entire way home. If his wife found out…. No, that was not an option. He loved her too much to hurt her like that. Why he had the audacity to do it in the first place was beside him.

  29. I am pleased with my life. With my job. I get to meet so many interesting people. People who probably don’t know just how great they are. I would like to let them know.

  30. The way he rubbed his hands together perfectly suited the mental image I held of him in my mind. He was an oily businessman, a schemer endlessly conspiring to climb a few steps higher in the ladder of life, even if he had to use other people’s bodies as the rungs.

  31. I was pleased with the arrangement, but not satisfied. I still felt empty, alone as if something had been left unresolved. I couldn’t show this, of course. My true emotions beaming would cause a disrupt in the fake balance we had worked so hard to obtain.

  39. pleased as punch is a strange saying. is punch happy? like the red fruit punch kind- i suppose that could be happy because it tastes good, but punch in general is kind of negative… getting punched in the face isn’t all that pleasing i don’t think. that would be the opposite of pleased- more like angry and painful.

  40. “Good evening Charles.” An overly polite voice echoed across the enormous lobby.
Charles turned around to greet his old friend as he descended a great marble stairway, accompanied by perhaps the most elegant woman he had ever seen. He knew her face from somewhere, but he couldn’t put his finger on it. He turned his attention to his old friend.
“William! er, SIR William, I suppose it must be now, huh?” Charles looked around. “You’ve done well for yourself since Bali.”
Sir William shrugged, but his smile said he was quite pleased with his new found wealth. “At the rate the king is handing out titles these days, we’ll all be Sires soon. Welcome, old friend.” He clasped Charles’ arm and they shared an old welcome. Still a charmer, as always, it would seem. “We’re so pleased that you’re able to join us. We heard about… ehm… well certain things have been said. But, where are my manners, we will speak of it later I’m sure. Let’s get go drown ourselves in whiskey and forget this awful hens coupe they call a party here in Macedonia. Don’t let their smiles fool you Charles, they’re crocodiles, every one of them. Schemers. And they’ll bite your head off as soon as you’re not looking. Don’t give them anything they can sink their slimy little claws into, you understand? Not a morsel.”
“William, aren’t you going to introduce me to your friend?” Her voice sounded like honey tastes.
“Ah. Once again, my manners escape me. You can put a soldier in a suit, but you that doesn’t make him a gentleman, eh Charles? I believe you’ve met the lovely lady Evelyn of Kerr, soon to be the lovely lady Evelyn of Alister if I have anything to do with it.” She smiled.
Shock smacked Charles in the face like a bucket of ice water. Mistress Evelyn. Rumour had it the late Lord Kerr came to a rather nasty end. Charles collected himself immediately, but he must have showed some sign of distress.
“Don’t believe everything you hear these days. Since the queen has come ill, rumors have had a way of spreading around the city like a wild fire. Pleased to meet you Charles.”
Well that was certainly true, though he was still a bit upset about being caught off guard. Charles kissed the hand she extended. She smelled like honey too. “I’ll certainly take that into consideration, should I hear any. The pleasure is mine, lady Evelyn.” And it was.
