  14. I’m not sure exactly what an oven is good for, but it does seem to keep things pretty warm. I like being warm, so this is why I like ovens. I like to stand in front of them when they are hot and I like opening them to put food in or take food out. At least, I have never put anything other than food in an oven, except for pans once the oven has cooled. But cold ovens are pretty useless because they are just like any other piece of metal in a kitchen… Not hot, like they should be.

The smell of burnt cake. “Damn it!” I yelled, coughing at the haze of black smoke that was now billowing from the open oven door. “Why does this always happen to me?” So much for cooking dessert tonight. What was I going to tell my friends when I showed up without a cake?

  26. My oven is old, but it gets used a lot. I bake brownies, mostly, as my boyfriend loves them. But it is also the place of crusty French bread and garlic bread for pairing with pasta. I used to have a great big, old stove which worked perfectly. When I build a house, it will go there, even though it’s not stainless or perfect.
