  32. “…I knew my wife had passed while I was over seas, I didn’t know the real reason why until I came home. You see from what my brother told me, after the president sent out another 6,000 troops and mini-nuked Jerusalem, a mob roared. My wife died because the house caught fire and she was upstairs.” The old man started to shuffle a bit, the white around his blue eyes started to turn red. The audience seemed to be more than attentive at this point.
“…to my knowledge, while I was serving in Egypt, was that it was an electrical fire. It wasn’t though” he voice started to crack a little but it also became more angry.
“Some set my house on fire and my wife was killed that night. I know this speech is suppose to be uplifting to my fellow veterans. But year after year of bullshit speeches, about how I enjoyed my service in the army is making me exhausted.”
The audience starts to hang on every word the man says now. The technical director even turned up the mic for people to hear him better.
The old wrinkled man becomes quiet, a tear rolls down his face, rolling in and out of every wrinkled crevices.
“Well!” his voice was ridden with anger now “I did not enjoy my service in the army. After all the horrible things i had to do for my county, to protect my county. My wife dies because she wasn’t safe. I wish I never had to leave. I’m not proud of what I did, I’m not proud of my country for killing millions, I’m not proud to stand at this podium ‘thanking god’ that I’m alive while I have to spend another night without my wife.”
The old man stands there looking down at the podium, more tears fall on his papers as he tightens his face.
“I will never be proud of my country. I just hope this is the last nuclear war anyone will ever have to suffer from. Unfortunately, history has a way to repeat itself.”
