  2. Needle in a haystack. This isn’t like yesterday’s word–revolt–but this one has a much finer point, so to speak. Needle is something you use to knit, or to sew, whichever activity at which you are more proficient. That doesn’t make any sense. Anyway, a needle is also the word used to designate a syringe, that is, that which is used to administer a medication of a sort directly into the bloodstream. I am terrified of needles, yet I have four tattoos and several piercings. Somehow, tattoo needles are not nearly are terrifying as the needles of syringes. I would get sixty tattoos before I would seat myself to receive a medical injection. The idea that one must receive an injection to have a cavity filled, for example, terrifies me enough that I make certain to take care of my teeth–that, and oral hygiene is important, and important to me. I am way off topic.

  7. Your fear of needles always perplexed me. You were such a strong human-being, but when it came to needles you were out. You went through seizure after seizure. You managed fine through though, but when you realized an IV was in you were out. I miss you. So much.

  8. needle be it may. like sharp intervals. my heart speaks with a timeless taste for the ends of it to creep its way into my skin. needle may it be, that love is so sharp it stings. gloom is at the heart of my reputation. like a slow death waiting to let out into its grave. needle if i may, take the timeless glass of infinity and let it rock back and forth. let me shape you with curtains and wine. needle can i spell, with love and hate. swallow till the day i cant break away.

  9. I used to do heroin. Needle is a powerful word for me. I have been clean for almost 6 months now and have not used heroin in almost a year. It feels fantastic; better than I could have ever imagined. Every day is like a gift and I am learning to appreciate things for the beauty they have. Nothing could be better. Ever.

  10. The thread slipped through my hands for th hundredth time. I sighed in exasperation and almost threw the needle and thread to the ground. It was a pointless endeavor anyway – trying to learn to embroider. It was only for my love, to make a project that would tell her how much I truly cared.

  15. No feeling is final. No needle can thread every hole. No thread can hold every stitch together. No one can be truly together with someone else. It is through the space, the wide gaps, where we lose one another and seep in to our own skin.

  16. in my eye. i wonder why my mother didnt teach me how to sew. My mother didnt teach me alot of things. Except to be resposnible, follow through on my word and always keep a promise. She’s dying. I am sad to be losing my mother and all those things she never taught me. She’s positive though. She has hope she will live. I know differently. And I wish I didn’t. Who knows I may have to suffer longer with or without her. They tell me when you lose your last parent you are free. I am curious to see. I will have to teach my child to sew. I will have to teach my child lots of things when my mother is gone. I will have to teach the values of our ancestors and of the power of the women in our family. I will have to be a good example. I’m sure even without trying my daughter will know to be responsible. It’s my karmic fate. So now what? How does one wait in the uncertainty of death? Where does one go?

  23. the needle is sharp. A needle scares me, i do not like the pain it sends through my body even with one little prick. I suppose needles do good things though, they help find out cures to diseases via medication/ testing. I still don’t like needles. It even sounds funny.

  25. The needle stabbed through the fabric as Sandry embroided a flower. She was angry, and this flower was supposed to be -calming-, but it wasn’t doing the job quite proper. The leaf appeared to bleed green and white thread, and she cursed inwardly at her own mistakes.

  26. One needle to thread the cloth of a thousand years. But as with anything it was replaceable. Nothing more than a sharp piece of metal thrown away with the misused thread.

  32. Never have I been so wary of something so small. A small, silver gleam amidst an ocean of shag. Where could it be. I know. I’ll find that out when I step on it one morning on the way to the bathroom, and i’ll trip and fall and bang my head against the armoir in the hallway. Glass will cascade down the arched legs and all of a sudden that missing needle will seem harmless.

  33. The cat landed, but was moving instantly as his paws slid across the oak floor. Mousie was hiding back behind his spinwheel, and I gazed upon the red tipped needle apprehensively. “I stabbed my cat,” i started, “to save my mouse.”

The next day my cat came up missing, and I never will know what anti-sentiments Sparkles had towards me.

  34. A needle and thread. A boy, a spool. And empty carton of cigarettes and an empty rocking chair on the porch in the heat of the middle of a summer day. The desert surrounds for miles, but the boy does not care. His dog sits on his lap, panting, watching the needle pull the thread in and out of the fabric…

  36. The needle pierced the vein, injecting warmth and hope and happiness into my vein. I was too far gone to realize that they removed the rubber tubing that was restricting my blood flow, but I felt euphoria unrestricted as it swam to every vessel, every artery of my body. I was free. There was nothing I could not accomplish. That is until the vampire serum caused my heart to flat line. I remember the sounds of the doctors become increasingly more distant as I swam away.

  40. “This won’t take long,” the doctor said, pulling out a long needle from within his white coat pocket. “Just try not to think about it, okay?” The boy sitting on the stretcher shivered; Whether if it was from the influenza or from the fear, he wasn’t too sure.
