  17. I grab a fist of words from the air, as ephemeral as a cobweb. They glisten with the dew of thought, but break each strand of silk with the weight of belief. You reach out too. Just as beautiful in you palm as mine. Therse are our morals- as much by chance as judgement and clumsy in our wish to keep this world beautiful by our design.

  18. there are various kinds of morals for various kinds of people. 1000 monks, 1000 religions, as I’ve heard they day. So lets not judge then, I think would be the first one to stick to. At least, thats just me.

  19. sometimes people live against their morals. some people have no morals. i am proud to say that i do have morals and i try to live by them. morals are important. they make us unique to every other person on the planet. what one person may think is obscene, another may really enjoy. one man”s good is another man’s evil. i believe the world would be a much worse place without morals. and i hope my children will grow up with strong and definitive morals of their own. if we did not have morals, the world would be in chaos with every one out for him or herself. it would be a sad place, a tragic place and not one that i would want my kids to grow up in. we all know right from wrong deep down inside and our morals are simply a way of keeping that knowledge alive.

  20. Oh, don’t go bringing that up again. You’ve always ridden too high up on the horse and from there it just means you’re an easier shot for the indian’s arrows as you ride across your exalted plain. Oh please. And it was only three years ago you were with him and you never let Jim know a thing.

  21. I have no morals. Being non religious and all, its tough. People hear about you and they think “Ugh, what a waste of flesh and blood if she isn’t going to worship God”
But they don’t know me. I have been through so much that it’s hard to believe that there is a greater being out there. And if there is, I don’t think he cares much for me.

  22. I had none. I threw them away the moment I let you enter me. And as I came, a crash resounded. On the floor, they lay like pieces of broken glass. Each, ready to pierce my feet in retribution and punishment.

  23. Morality goes down the figurative drain when alcohol is thrown into the picture. But that’s the beauty of it all; shit doesn’t matter whatsoever. What a way to experience life.

  24. This is what is lacking in the world. You are taught from an early age to respect others, to respect yourself. And you think that everyone is taught the same thing. Unfortunately, as you grow older, you realize that nobody else seems to have morals. Or perhaps the problem is that you don’t have morals. Or perhaps even the greatest problem is that you don’t associate with people who have morals.

  25. I try too hard to uphold these morals that I feel are necessary in a meaningful existence. But I’m too much of an idealist. I don’t see the fact that I’m slowly becoming a hypocrite; that my morals are pushing people away from me, people whom I once treasured and thought were worth my time.

  31. Something this country as a whole lacks at this point. Memories of a time when things were simple when my mom was a child. Everything really was black and white then. You were in love or you weren’t. You knew right from wrong and there was no question of which side you were on.

    by Beverly Johnson on 06.27.2011
  32. And ethics. What can you say? If you can get away with it -fine, go for it. Morals are a thing that powerful people use to put down less powerful people. While the most powerful people can worship Satan – or have him worship them – if they want. There is ethics – inside a person – that’s what counts. Morals are a power tool.

  33. Morals are so important in life. It gives a boundary that is needed. It gives freedom to people. It is necessary. Life is so much more abundant with morals. It helps a person’s growth and maturity. It makes the world better.

  34. One tries to have his actions match his morals and key beliefs, but ethics can be situational and then morals get murky and this leads to lack of self-esteem and all sorts of problems. But rigid morals are not good either. Nothing really works completely.

  35. I think that I have better morals than most people, even though often times my parents wouldn’t agree with me. I’ve never drank or smoked, not that either in moderation is morally wrong, but I just am very strict compared to most people my age.

  36. are something that mean different things to different people. Being moral can be seen as a negative thing, someone who is narrow minded and prudish but on the other hand it can mean something incredibly positive. Being considered as someone who has strong morals is something that politicians aspire to but rarely achieve. It is generally assumed that people with strong religious faith are moralistic but this tends to disappear when extremist views take over. Traditionally the Church of England, especially in Victorian times, was seen as a moral guardian, imposing strict rules of behaviour on its followers. These behaviours encompassed all walks of life from how to conduct relationships to rules of business. Today there is a widely held belief that morals are lax and a certain element in society believe that this decline in morals is the root of all evil. However, the UK does have quite liberal views on moral issues these days, hence the issue of gay rights, abortion and illegitimacy – all these topics are dealt with in a way which would seem unheard of even 40 years ago, let alone during the reign of Queen Victoria. As mentioned at the beginning, morals mean different things to different people and whislt society at large still imposes certain rules on morality (it’s ilegal to be naked in the street for example); the majority of individuals have their own moral code which they live by and is heavily influenced by their upbringing and their environment. There is no right or wrong answer when it comes to the question of whether or not an individual is moral or immoral unless it pertains to the law or of course, if you are that way inclined, to religious beliefs.

  38. How do you know what your standards are until you betray them? that was a question a wise friend asked me once as I bemoaned my lack of control in sleeping with a guy who was already taken, and had made it clear I wasn’t the only notch on his adulterous bedpost. Morals are tricky. And it differs so much from person to person. And indeed do you ever really know what you believe, until you’ve gone in the opposite direction?

  40. Why morals? Why not? Morals are important, sure, but that important? Although i see them as a fundation for all modern, civil life, its not so much an imperative as it is a social construction.
