  1. Liberty makes me think about the statue of liberty. It is in New York. It used to be bronze I think but over time it has turned green due to oxidation I think. The French gave us the Statue of liberty. Liberty makes me think of how I am free because the soldiers in Iraq fight for us.

  2. The way she stood at the ledge of the terrace, with a tiara of leaves seated on her hair, clutching a book in one hand and raising the other, reminded him of the Statue of Liberty. He admired the sight: the ropes of golden sunbeams snaked into her dark disheveled locks, and her eyes were laughing silently at the blue vastness of the firmament. Suddenly, she wasn’t a statue anymore. She was a goddess, and the epiphany made his heart skip a beat.

  3. The Statue of Liberty turns red in your line of vision, but no one seems to really pay attention to it. They don’t watch at the prongs of her crown gather blue fire at their tips and burn brightly in an eerily patriotic glow.

You watch as the children wave their tiny American flags and their shoes shake under the vibrations. Explosions on every coastline, ripping color into the peaceful horizon.

  6. liberty. free. the way im supposed to be feeling right now as a second semester senior. the feeling of having no pressure left, no stress and nothing to worry about. the feeling of knowing what college you will be going to next year and now having all the time in the world to do whatever i want. but right now i am feeling overwhelmed, confused and questioning whether i will be accepted anywhere. questioning if all this hard work that i have done the past four years of high school has actually counted for anything. right now the only liberty i feel is when i get to go to sleep at night so i can forget all of this is going on.

  19. I looked at the old rusting bell in a solemn silence. So this was the liberty bell.
“It’s a bit of a disappointment.” Gianna, my sister, whispered to me. I nodded. It was old, cracked, hardly beautiful. But in it’s own way, it was. I squeezed her hand.
“Let freedom ring, Gianna, let freedom ring.”

  20. Liberty trotted down the street, her paws heeding the call of her name. In an hour, she’d be miles away. Behind her, the last of the burning city reclaimed its own. And a steady stream of fellow canines followed her, on their own at last.

It stands as a symbol, a marking, of what the huma spirit can accomplish when it puts aside its differences. 28. I’ll slit your throat
    until you see red,
until you drop to your knees
and say “please stop, please stop,
    please stop”
    and your bones pop
under the pressure of my eyes
and you see my face light up
    like the night sky
and I cut you piece by piece
    until you release
    the blood into the river,
    water to wine,
    nothing finer than the taste
    of a sliver,
    until your throat
    melds into the snow,
    until frost bite
    freezes you,
until I feed you to the dogs,
    and you beg
saying they will kill too slow,
and your bones and joints will pull
and you will feel pain like
nothing ever before felt from a human
    being
and you will be sent eternally
    into agony
and I will see the look on your face
    as you fade away,
as your skin decays into the melting earth.
    How feeble you will look,
    how broken, disoriented
    you will feel
    and how that knife
    will burn
    and the frost
    will sting your blood
    and now you will see.
Now you will finally see something
no one else has thought or felt
    or realized in this lifetime.
