  1. They worked at the knot from every angle. They tore at it with their nails, pried at it with fingers and tools, tried praying over it and singing to it and reasoning with it. But it held like a bully’s fist, like the world we wish was not, a compact involvement of stubborn resolve, which holds together the universe and keeps us struggling into the small hours.

But sometimes they can get you in trouble…if you’re tied to something or soemone and you don’t want to be…like if you’ve been kidnapped and you’re hands are tied behind your back and you can’t get away. 16. A knot is something you need to untie, whether it be a knot at work or a knot with your best friend or even lover. Knots can be untied if you are willing to relax enough to fix it, because in order to untie a knot you need to see where it twists and meets.

  17. Soft, your hair is as I run my fingers gently through the honey gold. It slips and slides like liquid mercury around my skin, burning bright under the morning light.

I catch on a knot in your hair. The unexpected tug elicits a disgruntled moan and I smile slightly. Softly I unknot the tangle.

The honey gold threads of our lives unknot along with it and I bend down and plant a slow, sweet kiss along your forehead.
