  1. Inside, the walls were lustrous, as though they were made of metal instead of stone. There was oxidation at the corners where the ice melt seeped through. Torin and Rama simply stood and stared at the blank, spartan space with the quiet, still woman sitting at the far end of the chamber.

  2. Iron oxide, rusty, metallic, taste of red running through my veins. heartbeat, thumping, accelerating, never stopping. Wait! It’s gone! Where has it run off to? There, there, steeled itself with iron barbs. Stop, stop you’re hurting him! wait, you to? Against my chest? It burns, but continue to hold on, we’ll make it through

  3. The skillet. My mother used it all the time. When she passed away I couldn’t explain my attachment to it. I wanted that skillet so badly. More than the quilts or the antiques or even the house. I wanted the skillet.

  23. ironing reminds me of 1950s housewives. Irons are heavy. Iron is what makes blood taste like it does. People who are iron deficient should eat more red meats. I have a friend who is iron deficient and he is always tired.

  27. I always used to watch my mother iron our button-shirts from school. She would sing as she pressed the hot metal plate against the wrinkles. In all honesty, she was an awful singer. She couldn’t carry a tune, but I would always sit by her and smell the crispness of my newly pressed shirt.

  31. The iron will always cut you the real deal. A very deep quote by Henry Rollins plays a large part in my life. The gym is somewhere I can always go to relieve stress, this isn’t a poem, I guess in a weird way this is like a once a day journal. Keeps me writing for one minute about whatever the word brings to my mind. Didn’t go to the gym today but tomorrow will be glorious.

  35. Things are cold; snow is cold, winter is cold. Iron is cold, like the iron in your eyes.
The steely indifference that I’ve grown so used to, the cold, iron in your stare that leaves me breathless in a terrifying kind of way.
I miss when there was honey in your eyes, your eyes that were warm like velvet. Not the cold iron that meets my gaze when I long to see something else.
    Yes, iron is cold.

  38. the iron of a man is hardly judged by his actions, Rather, in truth that edifies and supplements all of our beliefs, the iron of a man is in his will. When, with the will, man killed his will, he proved weak iron. when he has no will, he has no iron whatsoever. when, once regenerated, he is given his will, his iron is tested and grown and perfected as none other than a divine being could grant.

  39. My mom used to iron. She didn’t do it real often, but I remember watching her and thinking, “I will never be that brave.” Most people don’t associate bravery with ironing. I was afraid of being burned. Mom wasn’t afraid. She would iron real close to her fingers sometimes, especially with pleats. But she was never scared.
