I really want to go to a festival. Even though I like particular types of music much more than others, I think it wouldn’t actually matter what festival I went to at all. I just want to feel that rush of being with an unimaginably large number of people in one place, all revelling in the same thing. Being immersed in the sounds, the sights, the feeling of being out in the world and enjoying yourself. It would be wonderful.

One, two, three…. He counted in his head and he jumped off the tower. He jumped because that’s what his family did for centuries. This festival was to honor those lost in the great fire that burned down the town’s square and those lost in the process one hundred years ago. And so he fell.

Dancing, a party. How can you imagine anything bad in your life?
The girls and boys all dance together.
Any age, any stage; just dancing.
A festival can be good or bad, right? No, all good.
Family, friends, enemies, strangers.
All are around and the celebration lingers.
What are we celebrating? Does it even matter?
No, we should only stay here and dance for hours.

It was like there was a festival in my mouth. All of the flavors dancing and jumbling together, a wild party of taste and texture.
With the next bite I began to think a street fight had broken out. Shard shards of flavor pierced my tongue and I thought that perhaps, next time, I’d use less pepper and more time.

the festival was riddled with life and lights . . . people moving, laughing, dancing . . . coloured smoke filled the air and the sound of music was everywhere

Of lights. Of the smell of burning paper. Of sweets. Of something that was supposed to be the triumph of good over evil. And each year, was the triumph of peer pressure and societal norms over common sense. He sighed. He’d had to spend all his money on festival fireworks this year as well.

It was a glorious festival. Everything I’ve ever heard of plus some. The world was showcased right here. Streamers lined the light posts. Down the street people were dancing, eating cotton candy, and holding large purple balloons. It went on forever with endless pavilions of infinitely amazing crafts and foods. And the people that’s another story.

Blue like dots behind squeezed eyelids,
I’m sure the moment he lets go I will be so
so sure of the world. It will be beautiful
and sharp and fancy like the bottom hem
of my favorite night gown. His favorite night gown.
There’s a festival of moaning manatees,
rolling fat bombs, in my brain. It won’t be long now.
It won’t be long. It won’t be. It won’t

Festival time in the household. That time when everyone gets a bit silly and wears wellies and hotpants and thinks that’s normal. I hate it. I don’t wear shorts. I also don’t drink so festivals have little appeal.

It’s the festival of lights, when these people come out, dressed up in sheer cloth, showing off whatever they don’t have to flaunt. Their bodies, glimmering under the stars, and the moon, shimmering through the very tree tops of the glade where they all come together to dance and be merry. Like a masquerade ball without the walls, and without masks, women’s dark hair flowing freely and men’s hands wandering against the sky, amidst the laughter.

I love festivals. There are many kinds of festivals–for example, there are cake festivals, light festivals, holiday festivals; you name it! I remember seeing this festival of Lights once in the Disney move, “Tangled.” In this festivals, all the citizens of the village came to the kingdom with homemade lanterns. Then they released them up into the sky in honor of the lost princess’s birthday.

Reminds me of the first rave I ever went to. It was a music festival – Electric Zoo Festival. It was actually one of the best times I have ever had in my life…I met someone who I am now so close to. It opened my eyes to a whole new world, a whole new lifestyle. I think I’m going to remember that day forever.

Their black eyes burn in the night, as the orange fire reflects in their pupils, everyone’s full body covered in black charcoal and tar. It is impossible to tell who is who, least of all if they were male or female, old or young. But as the moon becomes clouded and darkens in the sky and the fire is nothing but embers, that is when you see the first glowing ball of yellow in the sky. It has begun, the festival of the lights.
