  1. There were dolls in the old house. Birds would fly past it, sometimes stopping on the windowsill, looking in. There were stories in the dolls’ faces.

  2. I had an American Girl doll when I was little–Samantha. She had a pretty gingham dress and a gold locket and I had a story about how her parents died and her mother who painted with watercolors. My mother never painted with watercolors but at least she is alive. In conclusion, I am glad that I am not a doll.

  5. dolls, with their glass eyes, refuse to tell me about what happened in the dark. they close their eyes prettily when i shake them for the truth; they cry tears over their porcelain cheeks when i ask about how to wake, how to live.

  12. I used to play with dolls when I was younger, but years later, when I stopped, I always felt guilty. I always thought they somehow felt neglected, almost like they were real people. There is nothing sadder than a neglected toy.

  13. Dolls are funny things sometimes. They smile at you and sometimes even have eyes that can blink. Weirrrrrd. Anyway, dolls are like lolz. Falls, although that doesn’t quite rhyme because of the a and the o thing. Yeah, yeah. Dolls. I remember playing with a doll once when I was young. It was a barbie. But then I realized I can’t do that because I’m a boy.

  14. I always loved playing with dolls when I was younger it seems strange to me that now when I get a doll it is seen as a collectors item and must not be played with but kept in its original packaging. I still want to play…Why don’t I?

  16. They are a beautiful piece of art, meant for the enjoyment of young and older girls alike. They are meant to be admired and loved much like the girls themselves.

    by Andrea on 04.27.2010
  17. It was a sticky hot summer. Seventeen dolls lay in the garage awaiting the garage sale. I saved them from a new life of disaster with some heathen child from the next town over who’s mother would come to snatch them away for mere pennies. The dolls came into my suitcase by force.

    by John on 04.27.2010
  18. Dolls are for girls, my brothers all said, but then they played with their GI Joes all the time anyway. I told them they were dolls but i got slugged for my trouble. i kept my opinion about that private after that, but not my opinions about other things. I just ran faster afterward.

  19. Beautiful children, each perfect in their finest clothes. Rows and rows of still porcelein angels, none of them showing the hint of emotion in their eyes. Each smiling, eternally, whether or not they should be.

  20. i just saw an comic about dolls and action figures and that the distinction is this: actions figures are not cuddly – they poke . I wonder if my NM popped…. I should be checking that instead of typing on this thing for a minute…. the window is 30 minutes long… by doing this I am missing 1/30 of the window to claim this thing….

  21. Dolls are like little people, only better because they’re made of plastic. So therefore most things made in china are better than us, also Dolls are usually made in china, or out of china. China Dolls, does that mean made in or made of? Interesting question I should imagine, I wish I could write like this with any topic of my choice.

  23. Sitting on a shelf amidst the other toys, gazing forlornly at the children in which danced around starstruck at hoping to receive one of these precious treasures. One doll, wearing a pink dress and frilly bow ties was the first to be picked and carried off in the arms of a delightful little girl.

  26. Little girls always want dolls growing up. Barbie dolls, porcelain dolls, baby dolls, you name a type of doll and they want it. I never wanted one. They freak me out. Those blank, expressionless faces, and those unblinking eyes.

  27. There they were, the plastic and wood entities whose eyes seemed to follow you. turns out i was right they do. The Creepy little fucks had already cornered me and locked me in my own basement. Shit what were they going to do next.

  28. dolls are for little girls – that’s it. If you see anyone else playing with a doll you should question, “what the hell is going on here?” If there is no answer you should be afraid – very afraid

  29. i used to be scared of dolls. i guess i still am i just don’t see them as much anymore. my oma gave me a really expensive german doll when i was only 4 so my mom made me put it on my dresser. every night i’d stay up staring at the doll as it stared back at me, waiting for it to come to life. it never did.

  30. I had bratz dolls when I was little. I don’t really like them all that much now though. And I had Barbie dolls. I really liked them. My parents bought them for me from second hand stores, at least I think they did. I was like 5 when it happened so I barely remember anymore. I’m not that into dolls anymore. They’re too girly for me.

    by Ruth on 04.27.2010
  31. They stare at you. Dolls can be very creepy. While you sleep their little beady eyes watch your every movement. They anticipate your arrival, calmly waiting all day for you.

    by Sarah on 04.27.2010
  32. Dolls. I used to sing a song about dolls when I was a kid. Something about a blue doll. I can’t remember it anymore. I sang it in Faroese. I sometimes wonder why I didn’t continue singing. Lord knows my voice isn’t great but I wonder why I stopped.

  35. small and nothing to wonder about. so fragil it could break yourself in the innocence you remember. A Memory you wished you had as a child is now a haunting memory. It was there when they were gone and now, your alone with nothing porlcien to help you and like i said…I guess we are all doomed. They can’t save us forever and now..i give up on the thought of hope of a doll

    by John on 04.27.2010
  37. the doll house up the block was in itself creepy. It was almost as big as a child’s playhouse. No one knew who set it up there, just that nobody bothered to take it away. It’s details were extraordinary. There were even lace curtains on the windows.

  39. Yarn dolls, silk dolls, rubber dolls. They sat on the roof of my toy box, looking expectantly up at me before bedtime, and watched over me while I slept

  40. Dolls are extremely creepy especially the porcelain ones. I feel like they are watching me and at any moment they can trap me into them. The way eyes seems to follow you throughout the room and see your every move. As if they know you more than what you know yourself.
