  1. I extinguished a fire right before my eyes. I said something that had burned and raged in my heart that I had no idea how to tame. I did three simple moves- the three hard words to say. And it all started to become clear. I could see through the smoke and worry. I could rest now after the panic was gone. I distinguished my feelings from all of the other girls. And I could tell- just by this feeling, that he loved me too.

  2. She sat in the food court, headphones blaring, 17 and pissed off for no particular reason. She sipped her frozen lemonade and watched the grey haired men on their lunch breaks like animals in a zoo. She examined the distinguished lines on their faces, their crisp suits and handsome ties. She wondered if they had ever been 17 and pissed off just like she was.

  3. I am not telling.
as I put myself on yourself
    what transpires is unsound
like a tempest train chewing our ears.
one ear, three ear, no ears.
and you never learned to read my lips.

  9. You see a gentleman with a top hat and a cane – his eyes look familiar so you stop to stare. But he just walks on by, whistling a tune and dancing with the wind tapping at his back.

(and, right there, in the middle of the Big Easy, you fall in love with him).

  10. There was once a gentleman at a party. His hat was black, and his cane was shined. HIs shoes were of the finest quality and attracted the attention of every patron in the room. He entered every new venue with a sweep of his cape and a flash of his smile, his monocle twinkling in the light. His mustache twitched with every new endeavor, with every sip of brandy, and every swirl of scotch, this man was distinguished.

  11. He carried the most distinguished cane at the race track. Women swooned at the sight of his dapper attire. To think, 100 years from now this place would be populated with little more than gambling addicts and washed up bookies.

  13. I could never distinguish myself from you. I couldn’t pick out the memories of my own life that didn’t have you right next to me or in the background. You were always a thought, always one of the first thoughts because that’s what happens when you spend almost all your life with the same person beside you.

    “Agent, I did already mention I’m blind didn’t I?”

((believe I read that wrong ^^))

  18. distinguished honor roll my ass. it means nothing. i’m just as big a low-life as any other kid. the only difference is i test well and give a shit what people think about me. i’m proud when my name’s in the newspaper because i know there are people who don’t know me and don’t know anything about me but see my name and they know.

Wedging one hand between her overlapping belly and the waistband of her assless denim shorts, she let out a guttural belch.

    “Ah, now that’s clean living.”

  21. I can’t believe how he doesn’t see it. How he thinks he’s so average, so ordinary. Nothing about him is ordinary. The way he talks, the way he walks, the way he is. When I see him walking trough the streets, so calm and beautiful. I don’t think he walks knowing what to expect from the world. Maybe a bit naive, but it’s adorable. So pure, so free. So amazingly fantastic, He’s one of the most distinguised people I know.

  22. The way he distinguished himself was an usual one, he eschewed all modern-day grooming practices. The hair from his head flowed like a stream from his scalp to below his waistline — he could sit on it when requested to at a party — and his beard erupted in little puffs from his chin, and surrounded his mouth like wiry gray cloud.

  23. Distinguished is a funny word (which is a pretty easy way to start out a “OneWord,” but let me explain. It’s one of those words you can say that *sounds* positive, but doesn’t really mean anything. A “distinguished” choice is not the same as an “honorable” or “exemplary” choice for a position of high responsibility.

I don’t know, just something to think about.

  24. Distinguished men wear cravats, top hats, and leather belts, watch fobs and trophy wives. Playwrights blacklisted by the Pope don’t give a damn.

  25. i have never been able to separate some of my feelings. ten years ago i was on vacation. i was dating someone with a September 12th birthday. we planned to be in Hawaii. we didn’t know then, but it would be the worst vacation ever. i have never distinguished my feelings of angst, horror, nausea, elation, concern, care, excitement, terror and so many others i can’t name because my grandmother had quadruple bypass surgery on the 10th, the world trade center disasters happened on the 11th, his birthday was the 12th and i woke up with a sinus infection.. had to go to urgent care, spent the day asleep and Honolulu was closed. worst.

  26. I distinguished his grave from all the others, even in the darkness. I could feel his hand on my shoulder, his voice whispering in my ear, saying, “Let go, Amelia. Let go.” I closed my eyes and pictured him in front of me, tears rolling down my cheeks as I thought about us flying the kite. But I breathed in deep and let it out slow, letting him out as I exhaled. Andy was no longer a burden…but a blessing.

  33. I feel as though I’m distinguished from the rest but doesn’t everyone else? I believe that it is my positives along with my flaws that makes me who I am. That’s why I believe that you must learn to accept people for who they are most of the time, unless they’re people who enjoy being hurtful. To others.

  34. At that moment in time, I distinguished from everyone else around me; I wasn’t like them, I couldn’t ever be and part of me didn’t want to anymore. These people couldn’t ever bring me happiness, I needed to find that in myself. I was sick and tired of all the lies and corruption surrounding me everyday while I worked with these “people”. If they even deserved to that have that title, cause they certainly weren’t human or humane by any length.
