He was sitting on the porch near the shadow of the gazebo, rocking on the coiled-wire hinge of his deck chair. The August sun was waning as evening – and with it dinner – approached. He allowed himself to let his focus blur as he took a long pull that finished the bottle of Summer Shandy he’d been nursing for the past half-hour. The waves of Lake Michigan and the sandy shores had called it a truce for the day, and were in the process of retreating to their front lines. And then the grate of the sliding door jostled him upright in his chair, and as he slowed the pulse of his rocker she called, “Dinner’s ready.”

Like the butterfly that shows its brilliant wings with pride against the cloudy sky, I want to fly high and shine bright, even if I only had one day to live.

A butterfly is an insect that has wings and is a type of bug and on there wings they have different types of patterns and designs. But do not get a moth and a butterfly confused though. Butterflies are prettier than moths but moths also have designs and patters on there wings.

Off moderation, she is a butterfly, free to curse and aim offal projectiles wherever the wind takes her! Thanks to that single utterance, monosyllabic in form, a cocoon for caterpillars everywhere. ;)

blue green orange and brown

Walking along the path towards the barn, Elsa extended her hand as she spoke. Oddly enough, when she did so, a butterfly landed on her index finger. Elsa stared at the creature in surprise, though she kept walking. The flutterby, as she used to call them, stayed put.

Sting like a bee- there’s a beginning to this, a quote from Cassius Clay, as he then was. A magnificent boxer – tho there’s something sad about a beautiful man wrecking himself in the boxing ring.

There were butterflies everywhere. Something wasn’t right though. The butterflies were leaving trails of orange and blue behind them. The butterflies were Tron butterflies playing the light cycle game in the air, leaving trails of treachery behind them. Left and right you could see butterflies crashing into the opposing color’s trails and exploding out of existence.

The beauty of your wings unfurled as you stretch your arms out, feeling the autumn sun. The rays hit you at the angle that only I can see, pushing through my doubt and disbelief.

I saw the most beautiful butterfly at the park yesterday. Its wings were blue, purple and green. It had black outlines

butterfly… i don’t like this word, i think butterflies are overrated. everyone puts them in photographs and they’re over done. sure, they’re pretty, but they just fly around with no purpose. i guess that makes me jealous. i wish i could just fly around with no purpose sometimes. it’s not fair, is it?
By Rose on 02.09.2012
Its wings unfolded in the light, the colors caressing its form in the dazziling midday sun. It rested upon my cheek as I stared at it, not moving for the fear of it flying away. It was such a beauty.

If wounds are to swords what leather is to cows, then butterflys are to me what peace is to mind.
By ivan on 02.09.2012
i don’t feel like writing about butterflies. they flit about colorfully in meadows and if you have vibrant sleeves, reach your hand out and they’ll land on your arm but only because you’ll have tricked them into thinking you are a flower. when they find there is no nectar or pollen or whatever butterflies get out of flowers, they’ll ditch you and find a new sleeve/flower/colorful thing to land on. flaky things, butterflies.

I love butterflies, but I have a granddaughter who hates them. She hates them because…on a relaxing cruise down a river in a row boat, a butterfly surprised her companion, who, trying to shoo the butterfly, stood up and the boat overturned.
It turned out, after much ado about trying to find the companion, that the whole episode turned out happily.

My mom has collected butterflies for as long as I can remember. Even my friends who see butterflies always think of my mom. It has always been this way and will always be this way. My father was the largest provider of butterfly paraphernalia and is responsible for the majority of excessive wings that filled out home.

Butterflies in my stomach. I have been preparing for this for weeks. The candles, flowers, chocolates, songs, words, poetry- all set. All of it for you. All of it because I love you. All of it because I wish to make you feel loved and special everyday, but most especially today.

There was a time when all bugs were ugly, but one bug did the king of the fairies a great favour. The king decided to repay the favour by making the bug into a beautiful bug he called a butterfly.

There it was, perched atop a leaf like a serendipitous, fluttering flower, flitting its wings to the rhythm of an unidentifiable beat, twitching its antennae as if each scent on the breeze were the most interesting thing it had sensed.

The butterfly was orange and black with white spots on its wings. it flitted and flew around and around the front evergreen bush in front of her house. she would sit in the window and watch it fly around and land and then fly and land all the morning long. She was content and happy.

Shades of pink, gold, blue, green. The butterfly’s wing is like the most intricate stained glass window. Fluttering in the breeze. Catching the sun at angles.

I feel like our love is a butterfly that landed on my outstretched finger and I am holding my breath and being very very still because I know that if I sneeze or run or blink to slowly, it could fly away. I’m walking on eggshells and holding a butterfly and very much feeling like a bull in a china shop.
By Melissa on 02.09.2012
The butterfly fluttered around them as they slept in each others arms under the tree in the field of flowers.

I haven’t seen any butterflies today, and I hope I don’t anytime soon. it’s not that I don’t like them (I do), but we’ve had a really warm winter so far this year. In Georgia, that doesn’t mean much- except that on the few occasions where it freezes, everything that can die back does die back. So butterflies, if any of them respond to the warmer-than-normal-for-“winter” weather, will die on emerging from wherever they are.
