  2. I haven’t seen any butterflies today, and I hope I don’t anytime soon. it’s not that I don’t like them (I do), but we’ve had a really warm winter so far this year. In Georgia, that doesn’t mean much- except that on the few occasions where it freezes, everything that can die back does die back. So butterflies, if any of them respond to the warmer-than-normal-for-“winter” weather, will die on emerging from wherever they are.

It turned out, after much ado about trying to find the companion, that the whole episode turned out happily.

  13. i don’t feel like writing about butterflies. they flit about colorfully in meadows and if you have vibrant sleeves, reach your hand out and they’ll land on your arm but only because you’ll have tricked them into thinking you are a flower. when they find there is no nectar or pollen or whatever butterflies get out of flowers, they’ll ditch you and find a new sleeve/flower/colorful thing to land on. flaky things, butterflies.
