But alas it was bare, and it was creeping through his closed lids and moving its way through his eyes, tearing apart everything it came across. He was sitting alone on a stool speckled with eggshell blue, and the unforgiving light was making its way back through to his grief riddled mind, taking from him the thoughts he now understands he never wanted.

It’s not fair that bulbs aren’t alive…they do so much for us. They help keep our lives alight with happiness, and allow us to stay active when it’s dark.
Shouldn’t they get something in return? I think they should. But of course, life isn’t fair.

  11. light. and what a great invention light is… for without it we cannot enjoy the luxuries of the 21st century and the modern world. however how incredible is it that a tiny glass partical can contain so much power and at the same time be so fragile? but the again is that not the metaphor of life. for the bulb is itself the perhaps the best man-made metaphor of who we are.

Lights on in the dark, where before there was nothing and all there is now is the brilliance of pervasive thought and scrutiny, and all is seen under the light and those hidden secrets are out there, and is it right, is it just, is it what we want? And the anger she felt was returning.

  22. light bulbs are quite useful. they light up places that were dark and make everything clearer. and when Edison was asked why he didn’t give up when he failed, he said, “I haven’t failed, I’ve just found 99 ways that didn’t work.”

  23. I miss the bright tulips that were of such a pure inexplicable red that it took your breath away. They’d sway in the breeze to the rhythm of my peddling that day when I learned how to ride a bike. I was in a light blue dress and I had just decided, then and there on my dry gravelly driveway, that I would learn to do what so many others had learned before me, and never forgotten. I barely scraped my knees, you know. But when I did, eventually, after many minutes of teetering and timing practice, the blood which dribbled lightly down my scarred knees mimicked so sweetly the pigment which the tulips greedily harbored. Often imitated, never duplicated; there was nothing of a truer red than those tulips. Tulip bulbs, folks.

  25. The bulb sat on that stalk, sagging a little under the weight of its awkwardness. It stared out into the garden from the window… such a large sunny space. Healthy flowers stretched their petals as if awaking happily next to the warmth of a lover’s body. The bulb sighed. Or, rather, would have sighed. Damn lack of lungs.

  32. His eyes glanced upwards to the plant above him. Lying on your back, the word always looks different. Lying. Humans never lay; they always lie. Maybe He wasn’t really there at all. And how do we know who He is? If pride is a sin, why must He always capitalize His name to set Himself apart? He’s like a flower with gaudy decoration; not content to only have a green bulb.

    Spencer Kane

  37. A bulb. What do I think of first, a bulb on a flower or a light bulb? The answer, is that i thought of a light bulb first, and then the actual bulb shape, like on a flower. I suppose it is because they are so common. When we refer to the bulb shape, we are always referring to the electrical light one. Man has spread their technology so much over this earth, haven’t they? It is so pervasive. It is sad. And yet, it is triumphant. for without it, life would be so much more difficult, thus, you have to be thankful for what we have.
