  10. I’d love to alter the circumstances that are my life. My pants are always too long – being 5′ tall doesn’t make for a promising situation when shopping for jeans. Of course, I’m too lazy to take them in and have them tailored. My current situation isn’t one that I would like to be in, but at the same time, my apprehension about change makes it difficult to maneuver around it.

  12. I had this word three times in a row, sheesh. Altar is spelled with an “a,” right? Because otherwise I could do a clever drabble about religion and it’s “alteration” effects on human beings. But I’m not a convert, just a non-denominational believer, so religion hasn’t had that strong of an effect on me. I guess it could if I let it.

  36. Alter. I guess I don’t know how to really explain hat this word means to me. Everyday I alter in my beliefs, my perspective, everything. I am not sure of much. Things change.     It had been the one word that had terrified her since she had first begun trying on dresses. None of them had fit right and that, she had been assured, was the way things always worked. Nothing was supposed to fit right right off of the hanger. Which, when you really thought about it, was the dumbest idea she’d ever even heard of. Why would you want to buy something you know didn’t fit? Why would you allow a saleswoman to convince you to spend thousands more than you had budgeted for in order to pay hundreds more for costly alterations?

Most recently I had a zipper fixed on a plaid hoodie and had three jeans tailored so that I would never feel worried about the length of different jeans. The store is not the closest one for alterations nor is it the cheapest, but I go because I’m loyal to the old couple that work there everyday.
