thrown
Thrown can represent a variety of different means. You can throw a party, be thrown across a room, throw a ball, or be thrown off guard. Some meanings are fun; some violent; others as a game; and some not even physical at all, i.e. just mentally thrown.
raven
In its most basic form, the word 'raven' obviously brings me to the association of being a bird. There's another association though, one that wasn't exactly a favored memory: a TV show that I hated as a child. For that reason, I'll probably always hate the word 'raven'.
detention
Detention: I never quite achieved that impressive feat in high school. I got told off quite a bit, given a few warnings; but I wasn't cool enough to get 'detention'.
modem
The modem: something the more mature folk don't quite understand. Me, a software student; I understand its look, its purpose, its more technical side and common issues that surround it. My granddad - "I take computer lessons, y'know!" - wouldn't have a clue what it is. True, he's somehow got some notion inside his head that the internet is a woman. How? I don't know. He probably saw a photo/video of a woman on it or something and has understood her to be 'The Internet'. No doubt he'd group 'modem', 'internet', and 'computer' as the same thing... but hey, at least his constant errors with technology make a good laugh.
railroad
The railroad: a long route of grey, rusting metal to take you from A to B.
