Say Cheese! She says- so cliche I think, and the camera catches my eye roll in perfect timing. I was such a brat then. Why couldn't I have realized that some day. Today. She'd be gone and I'd crave one of her 'family fun days' that used to embarrass the hell out of me.
Mad props to my homies....even as the words escaped hi mouth, he sounded like a phony. Not now, as the whole room is looking to him to set the tend, to show the world the epitome of coolness. He can't return to the days of self doubt- the days of being the skinny loner that no-one noticed. This persona was more than just him- it was his livelihood now- his families livelihood. What a life. What a lie....
They want my statement. A yellow pad and pen mock me from the table. Statement seems so tangible, firm, permanent. But the accident is so fleeting in my mind. Accident. Another word. Could I have really killed that girl?
