lean
"Lean on me when you feel tired," he said. I laughed. I wasn't tired and I wouldn't lean on him. Too bad for that chuckle, hours later when I wanted to lean so badly but couldn't. My pride ate me up.
basement
Up the stairs, two at a time. Like a lion is chasing me, but it's only the dark. I'm sure there are some cave crickets too. I reach the upstairs, and I'm in one piece. That's wonderful.
furnace
It rumbled, rumble rumble rumble. Rumble. I was afraid when I walked out past it in the night...to pee. It was like a monster. I was scared. It rumbled. Oh no! I was okay.
sidetracked

endless
The snow went on for ever and ever, as long as I could see. My heart ached, and I didn't know why. I wanted to run and run until I reached the point where the snow and the white sky met. Endless. Oblivion.
