  5. Lieutenant Clemington, in my opinion, held far too much influence on the corporals and privates milling about the barracks. It wasn’t sexual allure, and some more chauvinistic soldiers would try to have me believe – it was difficult to make any roughhousing young woman like me trust in their more masculine thought processes. But Clemington was a different story than I was. She held an aura to her that drew in appeal. And it frightened me.

But don’t judge him by his ideology or his tattoos or his hair. He loves me and takes care of me. And that’s all that matters. That, and his criminal record, I guess.

Wilson snarled, but remained silent. What could he do? Thoughts raced. The man had a shotgun to his head, and a death sentence on his daughter. Somehow, this couldn’t be let to stand. Some are influenced more than others and it depends on those of us who are close to us, or peer pressure. 36. Influence is a big deal here in the Halos. It determines whether or not you get a job, get a house, even who your spouse will be, and how many children you might have. It’s hard to think that every move you make is pushed by the surrounding feelings, even storms of the heart around you. I was a total stranger to her. I said something that caused a stir. Do you want to know what it was? What I said that caused the change?
