  1. John carefully broke open the cocoon, and gasped to see that the creature inside was indeed alive! It was about four feet in length, with a somewhat humanoid form. It looked up at him, squinting through soft brown eyes, and attempted to speak in a low, faint mumble!
    “Just five more minutes…”
    “NO!”, bellowed John, as he threw back the bedclothes; “GET UP! YOU’LL BE LATE FOR SCHOOL!”

  2. I can see the wings breaking. I can see the cocoon cracking, its papery wisps falling in flakes to the ground. I want to throw up, or scream, because the moth isn’t coming out the way it’s supposed to. I know this, I know this. I did a project on moths in third grade, you think I don’t know how a moth’s supposed to emerge from the cocoon? It’s not like this. The wings are not supposed to snap.

  3. nobody ever dreams of being a caterpillar
    everybody just wants to be the pretty butterfly
    but isn’t it amazing how whilst the cocoon
    the caterpillar totally dissolves
    and changes completely
    i don’t think having all your bits liquefied would be very fun
    or painless
    so i kind of salute the caterpillar
    that’s willing to go through all that
    just to be someone everyone admires and wants to be

  4. She lifted her face, sniffing the cinnamon and burnt sugar coffee smells on the air. The air was cold. Mary turned and burrowed her nose and chin back into the covers. She rolled over so that the light beneath the door was no longer visible. Her back and neck were sore–she probably just needed to sleep more.

    Karen’s voice was soft: “I made breakfast.” Mary hadn’t heard her open the door.

    “I know.” She shuffled inside the comforter. “My neck hurts. I’m going to keep sleeping.”

    Her voice hardened. “It’s probably sore from sleeping too much. Come on. The coffee’s getting cold.”

    “No.”

  5. After all this time the caterpillar emerged into a beautiful butterfly. The world never saw anything of it, just a little worm that was slowly making it’s way in the world. Now it’s transformed into a majestic flying creature that brings wonder to the small children of the world. No one complains when there’s a butterfly flying around but when there’s a caterpillar around ew, what is that.

  6. Casper looked into the sky out of the tiny hole in his cocoon. Yes, Casper was a callipiller but who cares? He was soon to be a butterfly.

  7. She’s wrapped up in the worn afghan she stole from his old place, and her fingers are poking through the holes, and to be honest, she looks a little uncomfortable, but it smells like home. She remembers when he used to tease her about it – every time she went to his house, she would grab it, claiming it was the only thing in his frigid apartment that could keep her warm.

  9. “Get in the pod grandma! Yo pops, you stay in your pod! I didn’t spend all day cleaning this pool to not have you extending your life in an alien cocoon! Mr Henderson, I’m not done cleaning that pod! Did you take your medicine?”

  10. Dharma for butterflies.

    Running in and out of stars, only to trip on some celestial collision, he grew a little stronger every time. I’m doing this all wrong, looking out instead of in and entered a vortex in his own mind. It’s strong enough now, it can be attacked or preyed, but I’m not coming out til I’m done. Nobody will ever know what really happened in there, but when he emerged, he was streaming colored light.

  11. it was snowing again. and there was absolutely no chance of me getting out of bed. i was eternally bound to these blankets and pillows. this was my cocoon. i would only emerge in the spring as a graceful, beautiful new person. a butterfly. maybe, if i didn’t have a 6 a/m/ class and a long-overdue shower to take.

  12. He curled up into a ball in his cocoon of blankets. He never though such a thing would ever happen to him. Only in the movies, those strange random occurrences never seemed real enough to happen to him. Curled up inside his blankets, he let the stress of the day seep out into the soft material surrounding him.

  14. What was he thinking. No one would ever want to date a guy like him. He curled up into a cocoon of blankets as his friends tried to coax him out with some hot chocolate. In his barrier of soft material, he felt as if he could fall apart. The warmth of the blankets allowed for him to relax and with the alluring smell of hot chocolate, he finally emerged.

  15. The cocoon twitched as a shape emerged from inside it. The animal was a… butterfly cat! The winged feline stretched out her blue wings and then waited for them to dry.

  16. a cocoon is what a butterfly comes out of. It helps the catipillar form into a butterfly and God helps the catipillar form his/her cocoon so it can turn into a butterfly. And also A cocoon helps it protect it while it is forming into a butterfly.

  18. The caterpillar curls up, not knowing what comes next. There is no hesitation. There is no chance to second guess. It will become nothing and then become beautiful. Or maybe it was always beautiful. Maybe what comes next isn’t something better, just something different. Life goes on and is not always so straightforward. It grows

  21. you sincerely believe that you are at a point in your life where you are neither an amateur with false positivity leaking from every pore, nor someone experienced and discontent with the changes happening around you. you are stuck as apathetic goo sloshing around inside a cocoon of false pretences and a complete lack of motivation.

  23. I must be a serious nerd. My first thought related to “cocoon” was Pokemon. You know, how the bug Pokemon had an intermediate evolution before turning into something actually useful? Metapod and Kakuna. Haha, those were the days.

  25. Wrapped up in a blanket. The warmth coming from within protecting from the blizzard conditions outside. I felt like the world was peaceful inside, while outside the terrors of the cold ensued.

  34. Violet had wrapped herself up in the blanket as if it were a cocoon, and I could do was lift her up like a bundle and carry her to bed. She was fast asleep before I even placed her on top of the mattress.

    When I went back to my room, I did my best to clean up everything. Plastic bags were everywhere, and I kept my hands under cold water for a good half hour. It took ages to finally rub the rusty stains off.

  37. I wish I could wrap myself in silk and become beautiful but instead I have to deal with puberty and I probably won’t become pretty at the end so what even is the point.

  38. We all need to break out of something to grow up. Just as a caterpillar turns into a butterfly, it cannot get there until it has gone through the cocoon phase.
