  4. This makes me think of pineapples. I think there is something historical about pineapples and “welcoming.” Maybe it’s because pineapples were fruits that were hard to come by, back in the day anyway. Now you can go to practically any super market at any time of the year and buy a pineapple. It’s amazing, isn’t it? That you can find rare fruits in grocery stores?

  14. The snow and the rain and the sleet were all that greeted her, welcomed her, to the tiny town of absolute oblivion. She wasn’t sore in the slightest, but she had learned early on in life that boring things only get worse, not better. Never good enough, never something that one could recover for life.

    by Suwa on 07.17.2009
  15. I felt the foreboding even as I stepped across the cold greeting room tile.

    Get the hell out.

You didn’t say the words but they dripped from your false smile.

Only the ice in the glass ice tea could possible be colder.

Though you opened the door and waved me in,
    I was not welcome.

We glared daggers at each other
    but father was oblivious.

I never wanted to be near you,

  23. this is a common word which we use to show our hospitality but certain people use it with a sarcastic tone. welcome should be the general attitude towards any positive change in life. only then can we grow more and mature into better adults.

  25. It was a welcoming party hosted by my new employer. Unfortunately, I’ve never been the type of person who likes parties.

I awkwardly shook hands with several of my new coworkers and their trophy wives, all smiling plastic smiles toward me and pretending to be interested. I responded in a similar fashion, smiling like I used to smile when my mother forced me to pose for pictures when I really just wanted to go home.

  30. like a welcoming committee. they’re never very welcoming though. usually just overbearing and too loud. i think the best welcoming committee is just a business card that says “call us when you’re ready,” not some big dog and pony show with elephants and girls in leotards and batons.

    but that’s just me.
