  7. I’ve always hated being startled. When I was a kid I hated the silence at night because as soon as it was broken my heart would pound and I’d be scared for so long–so intense. My dad getting up to get a glass of water. My mom wondering why I was up so late on the computer. Maybe if I hadn’t

  8. Sometimes, i’m startled what am i writing about right now. it’s good to be startled, like jumping in a pool of cold water in Iran. But when you eat samuk, while going, or rather comning back from the natural spring, you tend to feel sick in the stomach. This also startles. So maybe startles is a a bad word to choose. Ha. As if you chose it.

  17. That’s an odd word. Why did it choose this word for me? I have no idea, but I’m going to write about it. I bet John McCain was certainly startled when he lost the election, but the odds were stacked against him. Bush was a republican president, and had single-handedly tanked our economy.

    MrINBN
  18. I was so startled when the election results were announced. How could a man so young and so different be elected the most powerful man in the free world? What can he accomplish? Can he right the ship and get America back on track? Can he foster change?

  22. He was startled, when he opened the door of his car. There were roses all over the floor, the seats, the steering wheel – he dropped his portfolio and his mouth hung open. His business partner, Chad, looked at him from across the lot, wondering why he’d stopped speaking.

  23. I am startled by many things. Scary events, for one. Being startled is only a human’s way to express sudden fear and imagination, in some cases. Startled can also be an emotional feeling, taking in something utterly drastic or surprising…

  24. i was so started that i almost lost my wallet. it slipped out of my hands and onto the grate which was below me. luckily, it is bulky and not tiny. if it were tiny, like for a fairy, it would have gone through the holes in the grate. but since i am human, it just fell on top. and then i picked it up. and imagined what it would be like to be a fairy. fun. but maybe a little dangerous to lose things. bc i am small. and so are my things.

    alison hummel
  25. startled. That’s me. Easy to startle. Easy to terrify. Especially when confronted with a task as mundane, but equally challenging as this one. Some people aren’t easy to startle. But I don’t recognize myself in these people. I think it adds something to life!

  28. shocked
stumbling over your passed out body
just as I was thinking about you
what it’d be like to kiss you
    to taste you
    mouth to mouth
    to say anything at all
then I rehearsed what I would say to you
    what flirtatious gesture
when we’d stumble into each other…when on when

    startled
….when you’re passed out on the floor
and I’m towering over your body.

  29. all it started with, was when we broke up. i couldn’t believe it. like a baseball through a window, like a flight of birds wooshing through the air, like the world suddenly stopped spinning. a spooked horse, a paniced elephant. It never made sense, so quick, so unexpected. I thought everything was fine. it was never fair.

  30. We kind of just sat there staring at each other. Neither of us spoke the other’s language though it was obvious we were both attracted to one another. I always thought that awkward moments are supposed to decrease significantly in number after a certain point. Obviously, I haven’t reached it.

Maybe I should drive myself to school instead of catching the bus?

The other passengers did not seem as startled as I was, considering it was one month since the attacks. 36. I just sat there thinking about my dog. Then BAM IT HIT ME. Nothing left to think about! I was so startled when I found her body there. I thought she would stay there, in the back yard, out of my mind…out of my hart. But she’s there, I could see her, feel her!
