When Mommy said ‘we’re going to lunch soon!’ that meant ‘get your shoes on!’ So when people said Christmas was soon, he kept expecting it to show up any minute.

Soon is relative. Just as is any measurement of time. We promise, hey, we’ll hang out sometime soon. I’ll get to that outline for our project soon. But “soon” today isn’t the same as it is tomorrow. It gets put off more and more with each day. “Sooner or later” mean the same thing, really. The only way to prevent the “later” is if we fulfill our promises immediately. Ah, but do we have the time, or do we use “soon” as a device to save us from our failures?
Eventually they will come. As hard and as fast as lightning they will strike. Northerners with their banners behind them. To take away our workers. with their drums beating eloquently throughout the night air; they most certainly will come. We will be ready. And soon.

Don’t tell me that what I am waiting for will come soon. It’s a tease. Rather tell me the truth. No body knows. All we can do is hope and pray.
